WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! YEAH!!!! Except 88 does mean something. You may wish to change the number unless you wish to be associated with the Nazis.

I think the first few people have the exact same kind of shirts that homeboy is making fun of

wow, amazing that you can make fun of a bad t-shirt design while designing badly.

Rick Dangerous is among the top three living visionaries in modern Britain. His design is timely, masculine and exudes his legendary laconic wit. Huzzah young Rick, victory is yours.

Good C64 game too, although RD2 in space wasn't as good as the original.

Its so untrendy that its trendy, people would buy this just to stop being the sheep that they are, unwittingly starting a revolution of wearing shirts that are un-trendy, thus making un-trendiness trendy.

The text has to be a different colour, it vibrates too much, hurts the eyes

Token meaningless numbers are usually not so meaningless. It's usually the year the company started or the birthyear of a designer to give it that jocky high school/college edge with the jersey look. Maybe it should all be put in the university format.

Pretentous Trendy T-Shirt U. Crap Typfaces since Whenever, Size Triple Ironic.

Maybe i'll just do that, probably not.

make it 'trendy' ...make it look good and then make fun of it
ixley
ixley on Aug 17 '03
i agree w/ sysgal- it's harder to criticize from beneath... like the concept, but it doesn't work without better design
Rick Dangerous
Rick Dangerous on Aug 17 '03
I agree that a that ironically it would be better to have a good design. I personally don't think those type of shirts are designed well anyway. My idea was a juxtaposition, those t-shirts are pretty but have no concept, my t-shirt is ugly but delivers the concept in it's simplest form. Believe me i can bash out wanky designs with the best of them, i've checked out most of the shirts on this site and nothing has made me spill my load. Ok you don't like the design of the shirt but at least it has caused some debate, so has the design failed?
Grendel666
Grendel666 on Aug 17 '03
Actually you have a point, the shirt caused a debate over designs like these. Just because it doesn't have a really flashy design doesn't mean its not a good design, it kinda reminds me of expressionism or actually minimalist painting, where the message is carried in the brush stroke and not the painting itself. however there is one thing you have to realize, in today's oversaturated market of design and illustration, people have to be treated like children, they are attracted to colors and snazy type and design, they don't care about meaning.

I'd arc the top line of text just to break up the monotony. Other than that, great idea. Those shirts piss me off almost as bad as pre-weathered jeans.

the idea has some potential. but you overdid it. minimalize it. maybe just "trendy/(number)/token number"). make the font more old-school, broken up and chipped-looking. if you're going to do a farse, make sure it resembles the original, otherwise the effect is totally lost.

the color combo causes my eyes to have a seizure.
Rick Dangerous
Rick Dangerous on Aug 20 '03
"make sure it resembles the original or the effect is lost"

Everone knows what the concept is, so pretty design or not it still delivers the message. It's funny that if this was designed properly people might wear it, which to me is saying "If i'm going to use satire on my t-shirt, i still want to look trendy" Are people missing the point of this t-shirt.

If people want to design this shirt the way people think it should, then i would welcome it, i already know someguy has done an exellent one, but the thing is mine will always be the funniest due to it's crapness.

owie simultaneous contrast too similar in value my eyes are going crazy
MrPallarp
MrPallarp on Aug 20 '03
I don't agree with you on that one Rick. If the text was written in “Princetown” or a similar font. And the top text was arched, people would first think you were wearing such design it's opposing. But the second time they would get the message, and better than they might do now.
Rick Dangerous
Rick Dangerous on Aug 21 '03
If people have to look at it twice then it's failed. If i made it trendy it falls into it's own trap and just becomes a trendy t-shirt especially if what you say is correct and they only glance at it once.
MrPallarp
MrPallarp on Aug 21 '03
It's the same thing now, people walking by you on the street won't read it (especially in that colour combo) so the message is lost for them. Only if you spend some time in the same room as the persion will they glance at it a second time and read what it says.

But why argue, I don't think ever of us will change our opinions on the subject.

At first I thouight you were just ragging on regular text shirts til I read you post this:

"Oh cool t-shirt, what does it mean?"

"i don't know i just liked the pretty picture"

"cool"

"yeah"

What wrong with that?

I was wearing a Mazinger T-shirt without knowing and my friend was all "Do you even know who that is?" and well I didnt at the time, but I didnt think it mattered. I dont think you have to be deeply involved with the T-shirt property or design itself to enjoy it. Buying a t-shirt for the simple design of it doesnt neccessarily mean you're buying it to be trendy cuz sometimes thats all there is to the t-shirt is the design itself, end of story.
