About my design
by Petanca
When someone always avoids trubble, we say he/she "sees no evil, hears no evil, speaks no evil" and this saying comes from Japan where it is represented by the Three Wise Monkeys who appear covering their eyes, ears and mouth, CLICK HERE FOR MORE. I played with this image to make monkeys see very clearely, speak up loud and hear very well. This also links to Pop 5 as this are the three senses used in the game: hearing, sight and voice. THANKS FOR ANY COMMENTS!

I was kind of bothered by the hand holding the speacker of the monkey on the right because it looked as if the speacker was going to fall down, so I fixed it, CLICKE HERE if you want to see how it looks now.

i like them all in a line. now i have to decide..when it's printed, will i wear the shirt 5 days a week, or buy 5 of them to wear a clean one 5 days a week...

Yes: the new hand looks better! I like it, but I think it would work better using only the monkey with the glasses. Great hair effect!!

Thanks for the omments, guys!
FRAGOSO, if i take the other monkeys away all the simbolism of the 3 wise monkeys is spoiled, and it is what this shirt is about! but thanks for commenting!

it's well done, but this idea has been done, and it's been done with chimps (those aren't monkeys). http://www.duiops.net/seresvivos/galeria/monos/Hear%20No%20Evil,%20See%20No%20Evil,%20Speak%20No%20Evil.jpg

if you had monkeys rather than apes it might be better!

Well, I think either there is a big missunderstanding here: MOOSEDINNER: if you look at the link i provided and at the explanation I KNOW that image exist, it comes from ancient Japan, it is everywere!!! Just type 3wise monkeys in google and you will get hundreds of pictures of the monkeys, covering their ears, mouth and eyes, just like the one you posted. That means: "do no evil, speak no evil, and see no evil". BUT I played with that image, if you see carefully you'll find out these chimapnzees aren't covering their eyes, mouth or ears, they are using devices that amplify their senses. Threfore what I want is to play with the icon of the three monkeys and saying the opposite: use your senses, get involved, don't go numb through life! Jeeee please, pay a little attention, my explanation is very short you could have read it and then you would understand that your link and your comment makes no sense. Please don't get upset, i know there is hundereds of subs and we rush through them, but take in consideration that this took me an effort and I think it deserves more than one milisecond to judge, at least the time you used in finding that picture you could have used in reading my explanation. Oh well, now I did right a long post. And for the other comments these are chimpanzees and not monkeys because that is how they are normally represented even though they are called teh "three wise monkeys".

morganian on Dec 05 '06
I readyour comment, and I have to say that just because everyone else makes the same mistake is no excuse to compound it by making it yourself, I know the 3 wise monkeys are often depicted as chimps but it still does not make Chimps Monkeys they are apes, maybe if you found some pictures of monkeys to base your illustrations on rather than just falling into the same mistake as othes people wouldn't be so judgemental of your work.

not saying that you copied me, just throwing this out there, that i did something kinda similar, but the apes couldn't use their senses because of old age:

MORGANIAN, ok I respect your opinion.
RYEOFCALI, I didn't copy you, I don't know how to show it but if you want take my word: I didn't. But yeah, it's pretty much the same idea.

@ petanca, thats ok, I think the actual illustration you've done is very good, and I'm sorry if I came across as a bit biligerant (sp?), but it just bugs me when people make that ape/monkey error.

you can get "3 wise monkey" sets in just about any animal these days - i think chimps are used a lot because they are most closely related to humans (it's kind of an evolution joke/twist on the idea) - so, it doesn't bug me - it's really well executed (the hand fix is better) - - 3 across, yellow

Yes, Petanca, you are right: only one monkey/chimp doesnīt make sense! I only thought that one monkey would make a better look on the tee (but it wouldnīt have any sense! Stupid me!).
I donīt really care about the difference between monkeys an apes... Iīm not saying there is no difference, but I donīy see it important, really. Great tshirt with chimps or apes!
hackslash
hackslash on Dec 06 '06
yeah... the difference doesn't really bother me, but i cant say ive ever been super impressed with monkeys or chimps anyway. i like the twist on the old (and very overdone) theme

Yellow and red both look good, but I'd defenitely go across rather than the other placement. Makes it more recognizable that way.

I prefere the placement as on the red shirt and... well, I'd like a 3rd color - but of these two the yellow.

i kind of like the monkeys jumbled about. it's much more interesting than just in a line...but still pleasing to the eye.

well i don't know the difference between monkeys and apes and i don't really think that it matters, because i like this shirt a lot. it's different from the one too old to be evil design and i like the new take on the Japanese theme. and i love their facial expressions. this is well done and people should stop picking on your great design. yeesh. that said, i like the horizontal placement with them in a line, and it looks good on the yellow colour.

Works a lot better than some of the previous versions. I think this would work better as a shirt, $5

No offense to anybody with a scientific or biological background or anything, but who really cares if they're apes or chimps? It doesnt really change the concept hes trying to get across.
