Tossing love notes into the night. Five colors (yay!) on dakota slate.

This is so cute. I love the people, but I think I'd love this even more without the tree or the sidewalk. Nonetheless, $5!

My eye is drawn toward the tree immediately, and that's not good because I miss out on the great scene to its left!

I agree with spykd...the tree detracts from the otherwise great design.

tAKE OUT THE TREE!

sk8dork on Dec 05 '06
or make the tree blend more into the background...i think it adds something, but in its current state it takes away from the rest of the design. and yeah, kid should be happier.

i like the tree; it makes it feel like a well kept city, rather than a dirty one..it adds a hominess that i think would be lacking otherwise

Thanks for the comments so far! I thought the colors of the tree would balance with the yellow in the windows but it might be a bit too heavy on the right. Perhaps the colors should be more subdued. Also, the boy is sad because he didn't catch the airplane -- though he might in the end.

Tone down the tree and make the lines in the side walk at an angle. The way they go straight down makes it look like he is sliding off or the tree and the boy are floating. Nice work.

i'd definitely buy it...but without the tree.

you could keep the tree but make it an outline to match the rest. oh and i really like the sidewalk. this is a very nice design. deserves a print!
MooseDinner
MooseDinner on Dec 05 '06
I like the outline idea. maybe move the tree a few inches to the right, and just make an outline of the left side

mingaroo on Dec 05 '06
I really like it, so cute! Perhaps shrink the whole thing, it seems too big for the tshirt. If you want to keep the tree maybe make the colors more muted , make it smaller and push it to the right.

yeah the tree is distracting... its also gonna be like right on a boob if a girl is wearing it. I dunno if you want that.

I like the tree, but it seems like the placement will be awkward. I agree that the sidewalk lines should be angled. It doesn't look like the boy is standing on the sidewalk, but that the sidewalk is standing on its side behind him. This is super cute!

Don't tone down the colours of the tree, just lose it all together. Keep it between the girl & the boy. The tree draws your eyes away from them & therefore you lose the sentiment completely. Lose the tree keep the rest. It's cute!

This is one of those times where the majority of the things i see i don't like, then i come across a design that is almost perfect but there are enough minor things going on with it that make my picky nature pass it by. This is one of those times. Just a few minor things and it would be great. Let me start with an example: ever drive on the highway and you see a billboard with just too much stuff on it to process in the time you drive by it? This shirt has a few superfluous items on it that take away from the design. If you can take things away from a design, and it still works, that usually means you didn't need it. For example, the first floor window is just one more thing our eyes and brain have to process while looking at the shirt in a short amount of time. Taking it away you can still get the impression she is on the second floor. The entire length of sidewalk does not need to be seen, and the top of the tree becomes a large focal point that takes away from the important part of the design (in my opinion) - the overshadowed dotted line trail the plane makes - that should be the focal point, everything else should simply accentuate the piece. Does that make sense? Maybe leave the leaves of the tree transparent (fabric) to take away attention from it, and shorten the plane's "flight plan" with bigger dashes and bigger airplanes to bring them into focal presence? Maybe make the tree smaller, and make the two characters bigger. We really only need to see very little of the image for it to still work. Its so close to being a guaranteed winner. Good luck!

The tree is a little overbearing. The little boy does look a little sad, but maybe he's concentrating on catchin the airplane? Ha, maybe. Anyways, I really DO like this quite a bit. 5$ if the tree was less distracting or just gone.

It made me "aaaawwww" out loud, damn you! Don't take out the tree make it smaller and then ad some more details to the left to balance it out, like brick the buliding. And for some compulsive reason I want to see blades of grass at the bottom of the tree.

Yes, this is by far a cute tee. Maybe replace the tree w/ possibly a door? I'd buy it either way. $5

The tree kept me in the design and I love it. I do think it needs to be toned down though because it's such a large solid space. Really nice design and extra points for the hearts flying from the note.

I'd play down everything 'cept the girl, the window, the plane/trail, and the boy. Tree especially needs to go or be toned down.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! I think if I were to revise this image I'd extend the sidewalk and probably add a door and a smaller tree. I also like the idea of making the tree grey and perhaps making the first floor window grey as well. I do think the boy should look sad as her affections are just outside his grasp.

Reading some of the comments, I agree with the tree taking away from the part of the design with the 2 kids. However, I like the tree there, so I suggest making the tree only in outline, like the sidewalk. The large green shape of the tree is too distracting.
