I actually started this without the contest in mind, but then saw the theme and it fits pretty well.

Please do comment! I'm not an artist by trade nor talent, so I need all the feedback I can get :)

This is pretty interesting. I've never really seen some one try to make a t shirt out of 50s art style. 5

I like very much how this looks, but I can't see the relation with Pop 5, could you explain? Thanks!

It reminds me of Moxie. It isn't tasty pop, but I've drunk it out of love of the name before. This is a perfect pop design without pandering to the Pop5 product. My only problem, your straw looks like a peice of string.
derangeddaoist
derangeddaoist on Nov 29 '06
Yep, it IS a string. The advertisement is for a cocktail, but not one you would drink...

Think about it, Petanca :] I think it's more fun if you found out yourself than if I told you

is it supposed to be a molotov coctail?
Negala
Negala on Nov 29 '06
if so, maybe the name should be "aunt anarkies"...

So I guess this links to pop5 because it is a commercial, and one of the categories of the game is tv, ok, fair enough. Linking to pop 5 or not, I like it.

This is the most clever, well thought out, incredibly designed shirt I've ever seen in my whole life. If this gets printed I will surely tell all my friends to buy it and also ever one else I have ever met or will meet in the future.

SuperAggroMike on Nov 29 '06
I'm gonna be royally pissed if this doesn't get printed.

Yeah, ohthedrama, I know it's pushing the envelope a tad, but I disagree that it's "inappropriate" for Threadless. More specifically, do you see a line Threadless submissions should never cross?

Petanca- the theme is "It's Not What You Know, It's How You Show It." In a nutshell, I "show" it in the form a double entendre.

haha, that's great. it took me a minute, but i got it! $5

personally, the only change i would make is take away the blue and coral-ish background colors and just make the text a different color. that way the design doesn't seem restricted to the rectangle those stripes create. but that's just me!

I really like the old fashioned advertising style with a twist. Is there any hint as to placement? I'm guessing standard 'across the chest'. Well, I like it so it gets a 5.

Since Aunt Arckie's is supposed to phonetically resemble Anarchy's I think the word Aunt should be replaced with Ann or Anne. The grey shadow on the woman's neck should be removed. For your future designs The Threadless Blog Forum is a great place to get free feedback for designs-in-progress so your submissions to Threadless can be the best they can be. Also Threadies.org is a great place for design tricks and hints.

sorry for screwing up with so much bold text ---- Here's what my comment was supposed to look like :

thanks helo-- I've done both things you mentioned, and yes, Ann would be phonetically closer, but at the time I feared it was obvious enough already. Also, the idea of an "aunt" juxtaposed with violence is so much funnier.

It seems busy with the reversed type. I understand you're going for a poster look but I think the t-shirt design would translate better if you assigned the colors behind the reversed type to the type and just pulled everything closer together.

As far as Aunt vs. Anne: Aunt would require slighty more thought from certain american accents in the north-east where they pronounce it with the long aaaah "a" sound. Brits too. (anybody know what cunucks use, the english speaking part?). Otherwise, I like the connotation of a "down home" feel that, combined with the 40-50 era soda ad offsets the cocktail and anarchy undertone nicely. Anne sounds like your begging people to "get it" rather than think about it...

Otherwise, excellent idea. Truthful sentiment. Can't get enough cocktails in my wearable graphic design (got 2 already from other sources), real or metaphor!!!

Ha, yeah, I was worried about the "aunts" pronunciation as well.

Being Aussie, I stared at that for a little while. Considering we basically pronounce Aunt as "aren't"... not "ant"... well you know. I *LOVE* the design style. A more lighthearted message would win me. Well done.

basically, I love this design. I have to say that it is one of the smartest and well thought out designs that I have seen on this site. for not being an "artist" I have to say that you did an amazing job.. I hope this does well and that you make many more designs.. =D

peace
