hhm an in-joke only other threadless members will get? might come across as a tad racist if it got printed seeing as the text is WHITE!

I really like it -- for a design geek it applies to many situations, not just t-shirts. The only thing I would love from a typography perspective is for the 'still' to be moved back closer to the 'is'. Things won't line up, but it gets rid of the noticeable hole in the middle (just my opinion though, so take it or leave it)

The racist thing is interesting. I'm a designer, so my initial response is as intended, but other people might not have that perspective obviously.

True, true. I didn't realize it could be construed as racist, but now that I think of it...Anyway, I've gotten a "Lose the text" before and I didn't even HAVE text in the design.

i'm pretty sure colour can be spelled either way...
_heycarmelina
_heycarmelina on Nov 27 '06
Oh my goodness, people. "Color" is the American spelling and "colour" is the British. Read about why on Wikipedia. (You'll see, Robsoul, that '-or' is the original ending from the Latin. It became '-our' after the Norman Conquest in 1066 to represent the Old French pronounciation. And it made me laugh to read you talking about the "bastardization of king's english" and using the word "dealio" in the same comment.) As for the design, I agree with MikeHarding. I think getting rid of that space will put more emphasis on "colour" and "enough," as well. My only problem is, being a white girl, wearing that shirt around the town in which I live would get me smashed on the concrete.

Colour is way better.

And this is nice! It works as an in-joke, but would still work as a tee regardless. It may confuse people, but that'd be good anyways. 5

SUPERxDUPER on Nov 27 '06
I don't think that this would be taken in a racist way if it was to get printed the way it is right now. Sure, some people might think about it, but it doesn't really make sense that way. If it said "One colour is still BETTER" then that would be a different topic. And about the big gap, the shirt would still be fine with or without it.

If you make it "color" you can shrink the space between "is" and "still" and still have the lines grow in length.

It will of course be percieved as racist by some people, as illustrated by the posts here alone and you really cant defeat that with your own brand of tricky logic. Its witty under your intentions but its easily misinterpreted and perhaps the world just doesnt need that kind of confusion...

Americans speak ENGLISH. Just because you took our language and butchered it doesnt mean our spelling is wrong. For gods sake you took the word LASER and put a Z in it!!! LASER IS AN ANACRONIM! Each letter MEANS something! Grrrrrrrr
JefftheStud
JefftheStud on Nov 28 '06
The people that would actually depict this shirt as a racist statement -would probably get offended by saying "Hello" to them. so dont worry about it.
claude.mercure
claude.mercure on Nov 28 '06
Wow, The Ending - so many dumb statements in only three lines! First, if you're going to argue about spelling, maybe you should take a lesson on it yourself. "Anacronim" isn't a word. "Acronym" might be what you were looking for. Also, your really put your foot in it by calling English "our language" - it existed long before the US ever did!
Lunchface
Lunchface on Nov 28 '06
The Ending is English if you look at the chaps profile. So I think he's entitled to state English as 'our' language. Shame about the anacronim/acronym issue though. (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation for those who were wondering ^_^.) I think the designs good, but perhaps quite an in joke, but at least a newbie like me can get it. YAY at me!

This teeshirt is amazingly clever and not at all racist...in the worls of threadless. We see it as tee shirt design, the rest of the world might take offense. And "Colour" is Colour in my native land. I personally love it, but you might wanna change some colours or some words around in order to save your ass from the political-corectness police. :D You get a $5 from me :D

i assume it is a threadless joke and wasn't intended to be racist i didn't even realize it until i read the comments. now that i see that i would think twice before wearing it. i really really liked it before i read the comments though and would probably still buy it so $5.

rebelduck on Nov 30 '06
As a newcomer to threadless, I didn't catch the joke and I automatically thought it was horrible. I'm pretty sure anyone else who wasn't acquainted with threadless would assume it's a racist comment too.

Still funny though...it'd be good if there wasn't a double entendre.

colour is color, i dont exactly know why people thought it was racist....i didnt get that opinion at all when i saw it. But, i was reading though the comments and i saw someone write:
"colo(u)r"
pretty much it looked amazing to me, regardless that it wasnt anything more than just correcting someone. haha. anyways, nice design. 5$

That's how I spell colour. I love this, and it'd be kind of a funny way of identifying other threadless members if you couldn't see their designs from far away... or maybe I'm just crazy? However, a second after I saw this as a threadless joke, I did consider that it might be taken as slightly racist as Morganian said.

I love it though!
