I thought about this design after so many late nights working on designs and having the TV on the entire time. And over here in Australia, after 1am, all you see/hear on tv are stupid informercials trying to sell you stuff you think you need but absolutely done. This is making fun of it and who better than Tom Dickson the famous Blendtec blender dude who blends just about everything like iPhones, camcorders etc just to show how strong his blender is. lol

So my initial idea was to have a superhero soaking him or herself in a bathtub full of various speech bubbles.



I felt my idea with the speech bubbles wasn't strong enough so I continued sketching and brainstorming which brought me to sketch this design you see below. I wasn't quite sure yet where I was going with it, but I like how this was looking and the character's face.


So i took it into Illustrator, and started inking using my tablet with the brush setting of 5pt Diameter, Pen Pressure setting and 5pt variation. This setting lets me vary the weight of my linework.

While I was colouring in the main character, the tub and the bubbles, I felt the character needed to be placed in a cool setting. So why not have him soaking himself in a tub, in an abandon building to be completely isolated from the outside world and have part of the walls missing to reveal the cityscape. Also, a window frame without walls, and in the center, a spotlight which is a signal for help from the superhero during troubled times.

Then it hit me what I wanted to achieve. I wanted this superhero to have the unfortunate case of midlife crisis and he's sitting in the tub with his little rubber ducky and baby tugboat playing with a bubble gun to do some soul searching while not caring about the outside world...even though the city is burning to the ground!

Above is the finished artwork with a couple of tweaks. Cleaned up the lines, added some smoke in the city, changed the look of the clouds, etc etc. I also added 3 bottles sitting on a shelf on the left wall. The bottles contain what everyone needs during a nice soak, "Lavender Scented Oils", "Coconut Shea Butter Moisturizer", "Old Spice Deodorant". Alas, i couldn't add these on the label because the bottles were a little too tiny. I also chucked in a few little tags on the left wall, and a face with a 'Wuz here' in reference to the character's Arch Nemesis. Also added more beer bottles to emphasize the fact that the superhero is pretty much pissfaced. :D
