Here will be my latest slogans, right now there are only two:

2011-03-14: Squirrels only get food if it's in a nutshell.
Now I gotta say that I really like that one... it has double meaning and it's about fooooood and also has fluffy animals in it and and and... and it's still open for voting, ain't that amazing?

FRICKINAWESOME had a fine thought in the comments down there... he said it would be nice to just have a limit of one slogan per day without having to bother about the time of day. I've done some thinking on this. Obviously it would have the same time zone related problems. When does a new day begin? Also from a database/session related point of view it might be difficult to handle.

So my latest thought is: Give us a contingent of 7 slogans per week. Just attach a counter to each user id and once per week issue the refills. This is just so true. I recently became a father and I can already see that someday my daughter will demand quite complicated answers to all kinds of questions concerning popular science shows or just everyday electronic devices.

Feel free to include little situations of your own, the only rule of the game is that every situation has to end with one character saying "I was in an interesting hypothetical situation the other day..."

Here goes:

I was in an interesting hypothetical situation the other day... I was already way too early for work on a Monday morning when I noticed that my watch was running backwards. "Oh my", I thought, "isn't it I haven't been wearing a watch since the late 90s?" There was obviously something wrong with the way Time had decided to behave, lately. I stepped outside to fetch the paper but immediately was trampled down by wild horses. Later the day a guy with a painted face tickled me awake with a feather. Just in case nobody at threadless knows why this happens:
It most likely happens because the length of the database field to store a slogan is set to exactly 65 chars. Before saving a slogan, special chars get converted to HTML representations like "& q u o t ;" or "& a m p ;" so the slogan gets longer and doesn't fit in the database column any more.

The solution is:
Always store the original in the database, never a changed version. The conversion should only be done on output.

If you feel that this creates too much stress on the server because that way the conversion has to be done every time the slogan is displayed then you could, of course, also extend the length of the database field. You just need to check the slogan's length once before converting special chars. Recycling is the key!

Successful slogans should be made of successful words, so the idea here is to try to make a slogan which is made up exclusively of the words used in the 6 latest and greatest typetees.
To make it more fun the slogan has to contain at least one word from each shirt and should ideally stay within the 65 chars limit.

Slogans are one of the truly fun parts of threadless, even though it lacks some functionality. One big baddy is the absence of a comment function but sloganeers have found ways around that by building up communities. If you love slogans and you have a feeling that your precious words are not really appreciated by the slobbering masses then hop on over to a brighter place: Official Slogan Club.

Of course word loving natures may also like numbers, so I have set up a simple Slogan Statistics page which can cough up a quick sum up of what the OSC member have up and running. Just hop on over:
