So I'm having a holiday party tonight, and I'm expecting around 10 people. We're having hor d'oeuvre-y stuff, latkes, chips, and dessert. I have a box of candy cane joe-joes (AMAZING -- if you're anywhere near trader joe's, buy some right now), peppermint bark, hot chocolate, a bunch of pumpkin pies that we have in the house anyway, possibly, and possibly a crumb cake.

I just baked one batch of no-pudge brownies.

The box says there are 12 servings, though I ate at least one (they broke!). Should I make another batch just to make sure there's enough, or is most of a batch + cookies and stuff plenty?

Would Victor Terrintop look good on my dad?

I'd been thinking of getting it for myself, since it's pretty and only $5, but while I was going back and forth, it sold out in my size. I think my dad might like it, though, since it has trees and he kind of looks like Victor Terrintop.

Also, should I get Tools of the Trade or A Dog's Instinct or neither? I like them both, but I'm already getting an I Can't Draw Hoodie and the deer hatrack shirt. I also don't reaaallly have the money for another shirt. Does anyone have any idea if Tools of the Trade will ever be reprinted on a hoodie?

Also, school is completely kicking my ass.

So I have 3 pairs of shoes in my cart, and all have only 1 or 2 pairs left. I miiight get 2 pairs, but I'll probably only get one.

(I need at least one new pair, but I want to spend the money I made babysitting some small monsters last night on something really luxurious, like... trainers)

So I'm applying for a job at this sorta fancy 50's-retro ice cream parlor in the old city section of Philly. Their application is a ridiculous 10 pages long (I know they have a reputation to uphold, but really, how much do my role models, long-term goals, and personal mission statements have to do with scooping ice cream?), and the last page is "draw what comes to mind with the words 'The Amazing Ben Franklin Ice Cream Sundae.'"

Right now, I'm stuck between making a sundae that looks like the top of Franklin (as in, he's made out of ice cream) in a Liberty-bell-shaped glass or a normal fancy sundae in an upside-down-Franklin-shaped glass. I'm kind of worried that a place that loves him so much as to be named after him would view my using Franklin as an ice cream dish as a sort of sacrilege.

Which is better? I have sketches, but I'm about to go to bed, so I don't have time to photograph them. I'm also considering adding unicorns, rainbows, and the hand of god to the picture, but that might be over the top...

So there's this woman who has been kindly driving me to fencing once or twice a week (my school is on her way there and she's an alum). This week, thank God, is the last week of finals, so I'm going home soon. I want to get her a smallish gift to thank her for picking me up every week with no expectation of payment or anything. However, I'm somewhat limited in my options, since I don't have time to go to Harvard Square and I want to spend under $10 (I'm poor!).

If you were an early-20s, vaguely artsy woman who does something involving designing museum exhibits for a living, what would you want?

Some options/places I can get stuff:
Starbucks -- boring, I know, but most people go there at some point

Barnes and Noble -- our bookstore is a very tiny one. She's an alum of my school, but I was also thinking moleskine or something.

Drugstores (CVS, Rite Aid) -- they don't have much gift-stuff, but might there be something there?

Hahaha, the family is such trailer trash.

Nickelodeon's statement: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being"

The dad (of the sure-to-be-cerebrally-impaired baby) is her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge.
(yes, I know, celebrity gossipblahblahblah but this is vaguely somewhat kinda newsworthy and also I'm going insane from one of like 10 people left at my school and STILL not being done finals)

Basically, the only shoes that come in my size are stripper shoes. Which I don't entirely mind, cause it means that if I fail out of school, I can always get a boob job and some of those shoes and launch a career. Also, stripper shoes are really entertaining:

When the other strippers turn an ankle in their giant boots or a fat john has a heart attack, you can nurse them!

These are nothing if not direct. Also, I'm not sure if these are the same way, but another pair I saw had cutouts in the middle of the dollar sign so guys could stuff money in there.

Wouldn't it be awesome if there were some little kids playing around in the shoes? Or maybe some guys who'd been too forward and been shrunken and trapped in the shoe for ETERNITY?

Cause why look at a real naked girl when you can look at a tiny green silhouette of one?

These aren't stripper shoes, but they're made by the same company. And they make my skin crawl.

My intro to the Hebrew Bible teacher is seriously the nicest woman I've ever met and one of my all-time favorite teachers. Our final is tomorrow, and I emailed her asking if she'd be in one of the on-campus cafes before the test and saying I was sorry the class was ending. Her reply:

"Yes, I certainly will be in Brown & Brew before our exam. My bus usually gets there around 10:50 a.m. If you have last minute questions, or just want to sip some coffee/juice with me, come on over. I’d love to see you any time!

And I too miss our class, and I do wish it could go on for several more semesters! The material is wonderful, and I really like the members of our group. It will be hard for me to say goodbye. And if you ever have the time or inclination, I would be delighted to have you in any course I teach. If anything is ever filled and you want in, just let me know. New Testament is an interesting study, and the Feminist Theologies is a very special course. I think you would really appreciate it. You would always be welcome!

See you tomorrow -
All my best,
As always,
Peggy"

The first day of class, she teared up cause they had moved her department's offices and she missed them (she's been teaching here for about 20 years, I think). And she's brilliant -- she went to Harvard Divinity, and other theologians often thank her in their papers.

Has anyone heard of him? I just discovered 2 of his songs in my itunes library (possibly from mixes on here), and now I'm hooked. His lyrics are smart and I love his voice. And if I could dance a quarter as well as the synchronized dancing in the 2nd video or the breakdancing in the first, I would be very happy. Also, in the first song, I think he might be sampling from the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon scorew, which is awesome.

Sidenote -- last night I rediscovered how difficult it is to let go and dance like a crazy person when you're the only sober person in the room. Wooohooooooo!
