I know some people complain about the community not being like it used to. But whatever man.
And I feel that some bloggers think the ambassador program is some kind of way to bring back that old community spirit. I used to think that, but not so much anymore. If that were the case, the ambassador program would probably consist of people telling everyone to blog more. I think it's more than that, and a little more far reaching.

Some people have some apprehension about the program, but I think it's a really cool thing. And I think whoever is critical of it are basing their judgement on how effective it was in its first year. Nothing is effective in its first year. Give it a chance and don't be so cynical about it. I'm betting it's hard to keep morale up when threadless is thinking of some fun things to do and some bloggers are just saying "no." It's a lot easier to ignore it if you don't want to participate. You can't compare some new community activity to say a Maltz or Tora blog. They're different things. And those dudes have lives. If they're not here, it's not because they hate the community. They're doing responsible adult things and don't have time to entertain us.

Also, Priscilla teaching art stuff?? Tom doing a community zine and comics stuff?? And other stuff?? That sounds really cool no matter how nostalgic you wanna be.

For all y'all complaining about the "community dying." You're the community. (!) Did you know that? Did you know that you can still make dumb blogs? Or controversial blogs? Did you know that on top of still being able to do what we've been doing for the past however years, we'll also have some people teach art classes to people and make zines and whatever else they think of doing? The community's liveness depends on how much the community participates. If people aren't here, that's just how it is. And if the ambassador program can bring in some new, cool people, then that's more than I'm doing.

Some bullet point stuff tips n tricks now:
problem: the threadless blogs don't have as much information. I don't want to go to tumblr or twitter or facebook or whatever to find out what's happening with the community.
opinion: I've never used any of those other things to get news about threadless. I have however, used it to talk to friends that I've made here. Some things I involve the community and some things I keep personal. That's my thing. Other people have their own thing.

problem: I don't like the ambassadors.
opinion: you can't please everybody. maybe there could be more community input as to who becomes an ambassador, but I think an important thing about the ambassador is availability and willingness to go out and do things and try things. just remember that if you don't like the program, you've done pretty good before they existed. I'm guessing these guys work pro bono. hats off to them if they do.
