Sketched this one up just now. I can think of a bunch of different places to take this one, but I'm not sure what's best.

I just got done sanding styrofoam for about an hour and a half for a little competition. Both my friend's mother and my mother work at a nursery together and every year it hosts a pumpkin art competition. My friend has competed for the past two years and she felt obligated to do it again this year. I hadn't known about it until recently, but now I'm helping her out with the creation of this year's entry.

She wanted to do a Where the Wild Things Are themed pumpkin (namely the most recognizable character from the book and movie... I haven't seen it yet so I don't know any of the names). I've never really done anything quite like this, so I'm excited to see how it turns out. Here's what I've done so far:

I had an idea today after stalliongsta mentioned some stuff about battlefields and war scenery. Somehow this floated into my head and I got to work tracing a photo of some American soldiers in Vietnam. Some of the values of the colors got brought along with the linework when I separated the elements, but I think it looks neat as it is.

I'm planning on adding splotches of color for each flower and then picking a tee color. Before I move on with it, though, I wanted to get some feedback. I'm not terribly too proud of some parts of the illustration itself. I feel like I butchered the flowers themselves and some segments of each soldier. Do my errors add charm, or are they just ugly?

I've finally gotten around to putting this one together! I wish I had the capacity to crank out spectacular designs like so many of the wonderful talents around here, but I'm just not able. That being so, it's been a number of months since I've even tried to hammer out a design.

Enjoy!

This is really the first design I've done that I had any real investment in. I didn't think that it would do as well as it did because I've noticed that most printed designs rarely score 4s, so a 2.16 is excellent in my eyes.

Thanks to everyone who voted and commented! I really appreciate it!

I've got a few more designs planned that I will blog about when I get started on them:

"Sweet Victory"
"Pleasure, Beauty, and Jealousy (PB&J)"
and
"I'm a Monster"

They're all still just ideas, but after knowing that I can approach scores like 2.16, I want to get started as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks to Randy and Manos and everybody who bumped the critique. Imma get started on another design and get to the point to where I can crank out consistently wonderful designs like the most of you folks on here.
