Thanks Threadless for taking a chance on this guy! I didn't think it had a chance with the score it got, surrounded by so many 3+ scoring designs. The caliber of Threadless designs just keeps getting better and better and harder to keep up with.

So put your hands in the air, it's Friday! Time to unleash all those glorious beasts that have been waiting all week to run free!

UPDATE: how about this version? maybe more wearable? or should I just go with the first red/blue version that everyone liked? I felt like it needed to look a little tougher. But now I can't decide. Can you?
Old post:

I know, for whatever reason, there are so many owl subs nowadays, but I hope there's room for one more before people get all "OWL - that's a zero for you!" Been working on this for a while, it's a bit of a nod to Harryhausen mixed with a reawakened appreciation for the pencil and a subtle owl/mouse joke thrown in for good measure.

This is five colors, but I'm still unsure which five to use... Which combination do you like best? Anyone?

Thanks Threadless and everyone who voted for this panda for this awesome second print! This ended up being one of the designs I put the most work into - I'm not a natural artist but more of a compulsive doodler, so getting things to the finished stage are sometimes a struggle. To get the perspective and proportions right, I ended up building a little model panda out of yellow plasticine clay and photographing it from different angles until I found a composition I liked, and based the final drawing off that. Being a part of Threadless for the past year has helped me so much in refining my drawing and coloring skills. It's incredibly humbling yet equally inspiring to see the amazing things that so many artists come up with here, so thanks for that too!

...where people are posting subs that I should 4 or 5?

I needed a little break from Threadless (9 month fatigue? post-print blues?) so I took one, but now I'm back and I think I've got some work to do.

So link me to one of those blogs, or post some great subs here please!

So I had to go down to the customs office to pick up my shirts because I miscalculated and was over the maximum amount you're allowed without having to pay customs.

The agent had me open my package and looked at the shirts and the invoice (I knew I was over so had resigned myself to paying 30% of the value) and when I explained that one of them was my design (I finally got to see Imposter in the Bird Hotel in person and was kind of excited) and showed him my name printed inside the shirt, he said, "Well, it doesn't seem right that you should have to pay customs on your own design". I smiled and agreed.

"Tell you what," he said, "I'm having a good day." And then he proceeded to let me leave, customs-free, with my shirts.

So, I'm having a good day too! Yay for awesome customs agents!

Updated for his last day. Won't you vote and comment?

So I've been working on this for a bit, and I can't decide which color direction I want to go in. I know I could put up both when I sub, but I prefer to just offer one option if there's a strong opinion one way or the other on what's more wearable.

Any other feedback is also always welcome. The coloring is still a bit rough and will be cleaned up. Working title is "The Longest Sleep". What do you think? Anyone?

Yep, that's a nice feeling.

This was my third design for Threadless and I remember being totally amazed at all the positive reactions and comments that I got despite being pretty new at the time. I've since realized that that's what the community is there for, and that Threadless is a pretty special place because of it.

Also, I got some good feedback in critique for this design, so this is as good a place as any to put in a plug for the critique section, or at least a plea to make it all that it can be and not just a place for offering pithy comments with a link to another design. There are some awesome people there offering honest, good criticism and their opinions and suggestions are incredibly valuable!

Anyway, it's so amazing to see this design become a tactile thing, bringing the process from vague idea to sketch to inked drawing to computer to its glorious printed end. It's crazy to think that people will wear this, on their very own bodies! Thanks to everyone who liked this design and voted for it! So awesome. So dizzy.

Where did you go? Was it worth it? I majored in Creative Writing because I thought it was maybe a teensy bit more practical than an art major. It wasn't. And now I make my living doing web & graphic design.

This is the only art school I've been to:

Was yours like this? (I'd love your vote and comment in these slooow summer days!)
