So I like cold teas, and in liking them have bought 'honest teas' on teh past, but am now in a desert mountain town where I have a hard time buying anything that isn't beef off the farm (cows all around!) not easy for this former city gal.

So I decided to try and make my own. I peeled an apple then grated the apple into water with honey and boiled it. Then, when it was boiling, I added the green tea. I strained it and bottled it - and yum! a bit spicy from the honey (made in town from some cacti flower or something) but really refreshing.

Next I went with pear - much more subtle flavor, and I used honeysuckle jam instead of honey - really nice and not too sweet (the apple one was really sweet).

Last night, I had some watermelon in the fridge. I used that and some more of the honeysuckle jam, becuase it doesn't add the spice the honey does. chilled and drinking it on this sunny (there are only about 10 days out of the year w/out blinding sun) and warm day and its def. perfect. Plus, all natural stuffs.

How do you play with your tea?

I really need a camera for this. But since I love to experiment with baking, thought I'd give suggestions here.

So I made a potato leek dough yesterday (yeast dough) and decided - hey, there's enough to make a loaf AND rolls. Then I decided, why not twisted rolls, because they're pretty? Then I remembered my last time in China Town in NYC and love of these scallion/green pea rolls.

SO, I took the rolled out dough and cut it into strips. In a pan I mashed together green peas and Mexican green onions (these burn my eyes, unlike other green onions, so are potently yum. They also have a bigger bulb on the bottom). I had browned the onions a bit in butter. I put these in the middle of the strips, pinched teh strips closed, and then twisted them and set them aside to rise.

They turned out awesome. The ends of teh twists burst open a bit, to showcase the pretty greenery inside. A friend came over and together we kind of went through a pan of them (I ended up with two pans of twists and a loaf of bread) Had one for breakfast and still amazing. I suggest filling more bread items with peas and scallions.

One minute I waas upright, next the scooter was sideways. We parted ways, it went forward into a car, I went sideways and stood up.

I'm bruised, and know I will hurt tomorrow. No damage was done to the car, but scooter wouldn't even start. (it landed on it's side kind of hard, and when loading it into a truck another peice got hit, which wasn't good).

Good news - the lady in front of me was sweet, a hair stylist from a family of hair stylists, and recently promoted. I needed a hair stylist, I have her card and will call for an appointment later. She also stayed with me until the truck came, so I will bake her something.

I am a grad student, but have a teaching position. The school is about an hour away from Juarez. To get an idea:

We Mess W/Texas

Las Semester I had a student who lost relatives to violence, just got word today that a student of mine was apparently stabbed. Many of my students have family in Juarez and surrounding cities, and despite the news not really relaying it, the violence is definately leaking over the border.

:( And for every one of my students it seems like it's dozens more just across teh border that are getting killed. . .

With, you know, stuff lying around.

So, every year my department holds this big benefit for the food bank in the area, the main one of the town I live in (which has a REALLY high poverty rate: I'm in NM). We have local musicians, cooks, authors, etc. come and put on a show and feature a silent auction. Only, this year we're getting WAY less donations of things to sell, and while we usually get some artists giving paintings, have none this year. The monies from this event apparently makes up the food bank's fall funds.

Last year Threadless was kind enough to donate some shirts but I'll admit, I'm behind in e-mails this year. I was wondering if anyone had something lying around they could donate? I've raided my closet, but some art or crafts for the auction would be a benefit!

Again, I apologize for soliciting so late, and so broadly (the benefit is on the 12th of NOV), we're just a bit strapped at the moment.

Anyone interested, savepennynow@yahoo.com

Thanks!

My stalker said they'd be here by to 'purge themselves of me' - and the cops say it's not really a threat because purge could mean they want to give me things they have of mine. I say, someone who sends you a letter every time you move telling how to get there is a stalker. Especially when they are batshit crazy.

good news, if they come and try to kill me the cops might be obligated to consider it a threat.

I've posted about them before, but feel the need to do so again as I'm fighting one off. Really? Ugh, it's so frustrating! And such a simple thing - I have a roommate now to save on monies when I didn't used to, and this is teh second night she's lived here and when she came home my stomach just started doing leaps. Granted, she came home with her boyfriend which I wasn't expecting, but still. . . .my bodies reaction is really getting on my nerves! Why can't I just shrug things off?
