Let's see, both bands are fictional. Both appear in great Rock movies from the 90s—Rock Star and Almost Famous respectively.

Steel Dragon are from the 80s. Stillwater from the 70s. Steel Dragon are based on Judas Priest. Stillwater are supposed to be the Allmann Brothers.

The Dragon's Stand Up And Shout is one one of the all-time best fake rock songs ever, But Fever Dog by Stillwater is damn solid.

Stillwater, however, is pretty much just a bunch of actors. Steel Dragon features Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham and Jeff Pilson of Dokken. All world-class players.

While I have to give it to Almost Famous for being the better movie, I think I'd be be more likely to pop in a Dragon CD while doing 90 on the highway. Wasted Generation and Blood Pollution are perfect 80s pastiche, and fit in seamlessly with the stuff I used to listen in highschool.

So the Dragon has it. For now. I feel a mellower phase coming on, and I may be forced to switch alliances temporarily. But that's the beauty of rock n roll, isn't it?
