I don't usually post blogs for charity like this, but some very good friends of mine- and very good people in general- are raising funds to help open and run a safe house and after-school program in Liberia, West Africa with the More Than Me Foundation. Brian and Maggie are experienced educators and artists, with past experience teaching at-risk and inner city youth, and they need help in acquiring educational materials and getting from New York to Liberia. Help them train, empower, and inspire at-risk girls in one of the poorest, impoverished spots on Earth. I've known these two for a long time, and I know they will bring unique creativity, knowledge, and resourcefulness, and -although it sounds cliche and trite- they really will make a difference in the lives of young Liberians.

They're already half way to their goal of $7,000 dollars!

Maggie is an artist, illustrator, and educator living in Brooklyn, NY. She has been teaching and tutoring students of all ages in a variety of settings for over ten years in subject matter varying from math and English to art and robotics. Maggie has developed programming and curriculum for various educational centers and not-for-profit organizations in art, physical science, game design, Do-It-Yourself electronics, and more. She spent one year studying art and culture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, West Africa. She specializes in using reused, recycled and re-purposed materials in both art and education.

Brian is a Brooklyn based educator who has worked with students ranging in age from pre-K to early college, teaching everything from physiology and art to computer literacy and physics. He has worked as a classroom teacher, after school outreach educator, and education programs coordinator for a children's museum. He has volunteered as a teacher at a vocational school in Uganda, East Africa, as well as a tutor for Bhutanese refugee adolescents. Brian is committed to providing a nuanced and creativity-based education to children and young adults from all walks of life. He believes that the fostering of creativity and critical thinking is key to the cultivation of successful and empowered students.
