Yarr, the pictures be up on pages 2 and 3, ye scurvy dogs!

I know this is going to sound strange, but I've wanted a pirate wench costume for ages. Not a cheaply made Halloween one. A really nice, beautiful one and I've finally picked out the pieces for it.

The price? Insane. Fulfilling my dream? Priceless.

(For those wondering why in the hell I'd want a pirate wench outfit, let's just say it's a fantasy of mine and leave it at that.)

Here's what I'm looking at:

First picture: The off-white blouse (no black over-shirt). It's silk chiffon and can be worn off the shoulder or on.

Second picture: The waistcoat/vest. It's silk with embroidery and antique buttons.

Third picture: The off-white petticoat on top (unbleached cotton gauze).

Fourth picture: The iridescent skirt (mine will be dark ruby red with black since they were out of the color in the picture) without the purple over-skirt (taffeta and silk chiffon).

And then I'll be adding my own boots and a handmade (not by my hands, but handmade all the same) dove grey/black velveteen frock coat over top (sometimes) that doesn't quite match but goes well enough (I already have it, so it's just going to have to match somewhat).

I'm hoping to add a nice hat at some point, but that's going to have to wait because I can't afford it and the costume right now.

Of course, this is assuming I can finally make the commitment to buying everything. I've been contemplating buying a really nice costume for years but just settled on this combination recently.

And, yes, I know, it's hardly historically accurate. I don't care.

Thoughts? I'm really excited about this and I think it's going to be gorgeous, although a little jumbled in terms of colors (I like it that way.)

Here's to hoping I can take the plunge soon. I hope, I hope, I hope...

UPDATE 11/23: Just placed the order! They should take about 2 weeks (according to the website, that's the typical TAT) or so to get to me, assuming there aren't any unforseen delays. :)

UPDATE 11/26: Ordered the hat! Mine will be black with silver buttons, not brown with gold. It's cashmere felt. :)

I also bought a ring that caught my eye. Every pirate needs a big ol' honkin' ring, right?

UPDATE 12/3: My mom bought me an extra Christmas present, so this gorgeous cuff bracelet is on the way, too. :)

For a better look at it (this one's in gold, but it's clearer), look here.

UPDATE 12/11: It's here (everything but the hat, that is)! The blouse is a completely different color than in the pictures (it's what most people would call "nude" rather than off-white, sort of a pantyhose color) so I'm not sure I'll be keeping it (it's kind of growing on me, but at the same time, it's not really what I want and I do have another, slightly less floozy-looking top I can wear instead), but the rest is great. I'll be posting pictures in the next few days, hopefully. :)

UPDATE 12/14: I'm exchanging the blouse for this one (in off-white):

It's silk charmeuse, off-the-shoulder with lace and black silk ribbons at the elbow cuffs.

UPDATE 12/16: Yarr, the pictures be up on page 2! :)

UPDATE: 1/3 - My new blouse is here and it's beautiful! It's really long, too. Long enough to wear it as a short dress or a chemise, which makes it look pretty darn hot with just my black raw silk corset and a pair of boots. Pictures coming as soon as my bloomers get here and I get my husband to take pictures again. :)

UPDATE 1/8 - My bloomers are here and they're perfect except that one of the cuffs on the legs is kind of wonky, so I'm probably going to have to send them back to be fixed. But, look for pictures soon, because I think I'm going to take some before I send them back (can't wait to send them and get them again, dammit). I'll probably ask my husband to take them tonight.

UPDATE 1/9 - Yarr, there be (sexy) pictures up on page 3!

UPDATE 1/13 - My mom bought me jewelry today!

And a necklace that looks similar to this ring (only without the ring part, obviously and with a smaller border around it):

They're green amethyst and soooo pretty. The ring is ginormous. Really old school glamorous cocktail type.

Sometimes the shirt you want in your size is sold out or you're not sure if a bigger or smaller shirt would fit you better. Since I haven't seen any blogs that covered the way that different sizes fit on the same person (in this sort of detail), I figured it was time that someone put the information out there.

My stats: I'm 5'6" and I weigh about 125ish pounds (a lot of which is muscle). I wear a size 2 (US) in sized shirts, a 34C in bras (because it does make a big difference in how a shirt fits) and have somewhat broad shoulders.

First up, a size comparison with the shirts laid flat:

The black shirt on the bottom is a washed (non-Threadless) FOTL men's small. The grey shirt second from the bottom is an unwashed/unshrunk girly large Revenge Of The Sushi. The cream shirt above the grey is an unwashed/unshrunk girly medium Robin Redbreast. On top is an unwashed/unshrunk girly small Polar Gardening.

As you can see from the comparison picture, the unwashed girly large's body is about the same width as the washed FOTL men's small but the shoulders are wider and the sleeves slightly longer.

Straw8erry333 has provided the following picture showing the difference between a washed girly large (top), an unwashed girly x-large (middle) and an unwashed guys small (bottom).

(The bottom width of the girly XL and the guys small are the same.)

The following are pictures of me wearing the various sizes:

Girly Small:

Girly Medium (the size I normally wear because I prefer a slightly less-form fitting fit):

Girly Large:

Hoodie size comparison (laid flat, XS and S unwashed, M washed in cold water/no drier):

Medium (brown) hoodie on the bottom, Small (charcoal) in the middle, X-Small (navy) on top.

As you can see from the picture, Small hoodies are noticeably wider than X-Small hoodies, in spite of what the size chart claims. The body length of all is roughly the same on the Small and Medium hoodies while the sleeve length decreases slightly as you go down in size.

I also have pictures of me wearing (unwashed/unshrunk) hoodies for comparison:

XS hoodie with a tee underneath:

XS hoodie without a tee underneath:

S hoodie without a tee underneath:

Medium hoodie:

For those wondering how much Threadless shirts/hoodies shrink in the wash (under optimum, non-shrinking circumstances, meaning cold water, handwash cycle, no drier and laid flat to dry - none of these have been intentionally shrunk, just washed under optimum conditions), I've put together a few images to help you see the differences:

Unwashed Girly Medium (red, bottom) vs. washed Girly Medium (brown, middle) vs. Unwashed Girly Small (sea foam, top):

As you can see, an unwashed Girly Medium stays the same width but shrinks lengthwise about one to two full hems' length (from the bottom of the tee to the stitched line at the bottom) - how much seems to depend on the actual beginning dimensions of the shirt* (AA shirts, particularly those of different colors, tend to be a bit irregular in length) - and is a bit shorter, but still wider, than an unwashed Girly Small.

* An important note about this picture: I compared the washed brown tee to an unwashed brown tee and the difference was confined to 1 hem's length at the bottom of the tee with no changes anywhere else, so the more extreme difference shown here might be due to differences among the colors of AA shirts. I would have used the other brown tee for this comparison shot, but it would have been hard to tell where one started and the other ended with them lying on top of one another.

Unwashed Girly Medium:

Washed Girly Medium:

Unwashed Girly Small:

Unwashed Medium hoodie (first picture) vs. washed (cold water/no drier) Medium hoodie (second picture):

(My apologies for the bad picture and horribly clashing outfit, I put the hoodie on over my pajamas because I was too lazy to get dressed.)

The before washing picture is on top, the after washing picture on the bottom. In this case, the hoodie shunk all over somewhat (enough to makea difference in fit). It actually fits better now. The sleeves have shortened and the body has shrunk in width and in length.

Hopefully this helps my fellow ladies trying to decide what size to buy or whether a shirt in a given size will fit! And possibly a few guys wondering if a Girly L will fit (or whether the sleeves will be too short). :)

Things to look for in the future:

* I'll be slowly adding Threadless Custom tee sizes to the blog. Whether I buy the new tees or not in the near future depends on which designs are printed on them. I'm planning on buying Small and Medium in the new Custom Tees to get a feel for the fit, so those two will definitely be up here at some point. Whether simultaneously or separately, I don't know at this point.

* I’m not sure if I’ll ever be adding a XL girly shirt to my images of me wearing the tees because I think it’s going to be too big to be flattering (hence my not wanting to buy one, but if one comes my way, even temporarily, it’ll be added). I'm not ruling it out entirely, though.

So I've been setting here all day waiting for the Thriftee to change (Who I Am in Men's XXL apparently likes its home on the Thriftee page and can't be budged) and decided to look at the Stock Chart just for the hell of it and what comes up?

1 Girly Large Revenge of the Sushi (bigger than my true size by one or two sizes, but it's better than nothing, and I've been meaning to try a bigger shirt for the sake of science), 1 Girly Medium Earl Grey (which had my name written all over it and was completely gone, thus breaking my heart), 1 Girly Medium Robin Redbreast and 1 Girly Small H2O's Sacrifice (which I wanted in a tee in addition to my hoodie)!

Yay for mysterious random restocking! Were they returns that just got posted? Was there a positive stock discrepancy for a change and I'm getting good karma for missing out on two shirts thanks to negative stock discrepancies? It doesn't really matter as long as I get my shirts.

Right now, I'll accept divine intervention as a reasonable explanation. Or maybe good karma. Either way, I'm happy.

ETA: And again (and again)! Another (2?) mystery benefactor(s) 11/3! You guys are the best!

Someone out there STP'd me! Anyone want to own up so I can say thank you?

First time I've ever gotten STPs without submitting photos. I feel all warm and fuzzy now. :)

Words can't describe how much I love this design and I'm praying for a reprint, so I can get a tee to go with my hoodie (because while it gets damn cold in Illinois in the winter, it's not cold all year 'round and I'd like to actually wear this design all year 'round without sweltering).

I will however admit to being a bit slow and not even really noticing that the design's an optical illusion. Yeah, I noticed that there's tree branches on the socks, but I never noticed that the negative spaces between the legs form real trees.

The "severed deer" is a bit weird, but I've decided that I'm going to go with it being two deer that happen to be grazing nose to butt (or close to it) and not even think about mutant Stretch Armstrong deer.

Stellar design. Just beautiful on so many levels.

I desperately need this shirt in a Girly Medium and I'm not above making an angry wrathful sofa face to get it. }:[]

Anyone got one? I'm not patient enough to sit here and hope and pray that it gets reprinted (although my reprint request is in and if it does get reprinted, I'll still be buying one).
