What's your panel two pitfall?
Ever have a seemingly impassible gap between you and there?

What was it? What happened?

I know for me it was when I seemed to have everything in lined-up, but couldn't for the life of me find a place to live without mooching. I could see all the good things in panel 1 and see all the things that waited in panel 3, but it seemed like this impossible pit. It really took someone from panel 3 to reach across to me to show me it wasn't that far and I could get to the other side.

This sub isn't about that story really, but from my view of it I think of it as being about those gaps we face in our lives that seem so large until someone is willing to reach over it.

Do you have any stories like that?

I have to go to a LOT of highschool graduations for my job.
Honestly there's only about 5-6 speeches and they get around.

I don't blame the kids that speak, I know they have a lot of pressure and their speech sometimes have to take a backseat to finals, prom, college prep etc.

That's why I'll forgive the: definition of a word speech, the inside joke you think your whole graduating class will get but nobody does but you talk about it the whole time speech, the pretentious highschool literature quoting speech.

But the one I can't forgive is from faculty, every year I hear a variant of it from at least one school, I call it "We know better than you dumb kids and it's funny" speech.

It's usually something like "Get ready cause in the real world your boss doesn't care if you find yourself, if you think (hard teacher) is hard, wait until you work in a corporate setting"

Basically the bottom line is "hey all that positive stuff you learned in scho0l? It's all a fantasy, put on this hard hat and get in the mines"

It turns an opportunity to inspire graduates and help them channel that optimism these people seem to hate so much and instead turn it into a hackey, usually plagiarized and passed off as their own, try at making the parents laugh at their kids.

Todays was the worst though, it was obviously stolen and said it was his own (I've read the same thing as a stupid forward someone sent me) and then added this weird pro-military thing to the end.

Start righting good speeches and remember it's an opportunity to inspire not a chance to grind your old guy ax.

It can be done, my favorite I heard was was "all your fads are passing so don't cling to them, but who you are and the hope you bring needs to surpass your parents and show us you can do so much better in the world, don't let it fade out like your ipods will"

...and now I'm trying REALLY hard not to make any drastic or important decisions until I go to bed tonight and change this mood.

If I can avoid making work, family or webcomic decisions today I should be good.

I also have one of the more stressful programs of my month coming up in the afternoon and I'm just hoping I don't snap because of that.

I wish it was just a day of playing video games, then I could just reset it if I make the wrong decisions...

Dear People from the Threadless blogs who E-mailed "Me" about my webcomic.

Thank you so much for taking the time to e-mail me and tell me that you liked the strip. I'm sorry you didn't get a response.

You accidentally e-mailed my writer (an understandable mistake as I'm the artist over there and I haven't submitted any designs here and am more into the slogan end of things) and his inbox is like a steel trap. He didn't forward me the e-mails and no matter how hard I beg he won't even tell me who you are responding with a "I'll check when I get home"

So whoever you are, I love and value you and thank you for taking the time to check out my webcomic. If you want to e-mail me in the future about it hit up ominouskevin (at) gmail (dot) com

Please respond and let me know who you are, I won't be getting it out of my writer any time soon and I am dying with curiosity about who wrote me.

Love,
Kevin I
