What would be the best way for designing a t-shirt or even anything?

Should I start by sketching with a pencil and paper so that there is an immediate idea and keep revising

or

go straight to illustrator with the idea, submit it for critiques and work from there?

Also, would scanning your pencil and paper drawing into illustrator to trace an easy way to illustrate?

So when I want to post a thumbnail of my image, I always get a shrunken view of my design rather than a closeup image of a portion of the design. How would I go about making that closeup shot, much like the many thumbnails up for scoring?
Thank you to anyone who can answer this!!

I like to say that I still buy cd's. Yeah, I had napster when it first came out and hell yeah did I burn song after song onto blank cds as my own personal playlists. I'm 20 now and still download various songs, movies, software but I rather buy the cd then download it. Why? Cuz I want to be that guy with the biggest cd collection. When you were growing up, didn't you know someone with a huge vinyl collection? Cd's are great....cool artwork....lyrics are generally included, and sometimes the cd holds secret stuff that your itunes can't play. Cd's are ill and I think people should think twice about regretting to buy a cd. Buy the bands you love, download the one's you need for a quick refresher. Who know's, maybe you will start your sweet cd collection. I know am well on my way.

I write right now to post a goal I have set for myself since joining a member of Threadless community. I have recently begun to focus on learning Illustrator and it's potential. I enjoy admiring design that is, well, odd is a way of saying it. Design that is randomized and numerous and bold, if I should say. My goal is to finally achieve a design of mine to be entered in for scoring. This to me would be a point of skilled creativity in an art I intend to work in.

I never post blogs or have written in a journal that reflect's my thoughts. If someone wants to hear my thoughts, they can ask. On the other hand, a somewhat strange occurence has been going on throughout the year. Strange is bad word, but let me explain. One of my roomates, Mike, and I love movies. We have seen every type of movie there has to be, from the obscure to the popular. It is good to have a sense of variety to really find out what intrigues you, but thats besides the point. So, all throughout the year we would constantly talk about these old school movies we have seen. Movies like TerrorVision, Screamers, Rules Of Attraction, The Golden Child, Creepshow, Krull, Day Of The Dead and the list goes. These aren't just movies that are circulated on a daily schedule. These are movies we haven't seen in YEARS! So when we mention these movies, it happens to be either the next day or later on the week, that particular movie is on and we are fucking psyched. Also, we would mention movies that we like or just talking like "Hey, Remember that scene in...." Yeaaaa so like the other day I was talking about Tommy Boy in my "Professional Selling" class and what do you know...."Tommy Boy" is on that night. Another time, Mike was talking about this guy's scream in "House Of Flying Daggers" when he get's stabbed. Its blood curdling so I recomned to check it out. But yeah, a few days later, that movie is one. Fucking South Park's last episode for their latest season did a mock of all the Living Dead movies. And what do you know, all the Land Of The Dead movies are shown throughout the week. Well, I figured I mention this. For people who care, you can IM to say how funny or not funny this is.
