A huge Everglades brush fire has been burning for the past few days now just a few miles west of my house. I live on the edge of the county where the Everglades begins and smoke and ash has been filling the air. My lungs have bathed in it as well. The End.

So today I went to South Beach after handing in my Sociology thru Film final just to take advantage of the awesome spring weather. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was a nice 82 degrees. I walked a little down Lincoln Rd until I figured it was time to head home (rush hour traffic can be a real slut). While walking back to the parking lot I came across some dude with ragged clothing and wide eyes. You know the type - wide crazy eyes that make you wonder if some gears are out of whack in someone's brain. Yeah. Those. He muttered something at me and I responded, "No," assuming that he was asking for money. Just a few minutes earlier I had given all my quarters and dimes to another homeless guy.

He reacts to my response. He yells:

"What do you mean, 'no?' What, you don't understand shit?"

I shrugged and kept walking past him.

Then he shouted something pretty racist at me which caused a few eyebrows to perk up outside Starbucks.

He called me a "brown turd spic."

I kept walking and didn't give him the time of day. Glancing back I noticed that he was following me so I immediately went inside the Starbucks. He didn't follow me in but he did follow me from the outside as I walked inside the store. We stared at eachother through the windows as we kept walking.

Then, I hid in one of the music booths that this Starbucks offers. But this guy would not give up. He cupped his hands around his eyes as he pressed against the window trying to see where I was. He even banged against the glass trying to get some lady's attention who naturally shrugged him off as some unstable homeless guy.

I saw him walking toward where he would be able to see me and I walked the other way, the booth obstructing his view of me. After a few seconds, he went all the way around the store and I was able to walk out from the other side and get to my car.

I really wonder what he said at first.

And I wonder what could have happened.

I so would've kicked him in the balls.
