Since joining Threadless almost three years ago, I always found the 12 month club as a neat "you never know what you're going to get" idea that has always interested me. In the time that I've been here, six shirts have been printed for the club that I really found astonishing. March through June of 2007, and June and October of 2008. So I guess the point of this blog is to ask subscribers of the club what piqued your interest in dropping $200 (or more for those outside the U.S.) on items you may or may not even like? I'm leaning towards joining but not till near the end of the year. Responses from those who thought it over and didn't join are also welcomed. I thank anyone who takes their time in answering.

The war in Iraq has become a topic that has split our country in two. With President Bush wanting to send an additional 22,000 troops over seas, the issue has begun once again to heat up to a new degree. Protests and demonstrations in Washington have been frequent, and political analysts are quick to point to Vietnam as a reference point to where this war could end up. Mean while enlistment numbers are down forty-two percent and see no bright spot in gaining strength.
So how would President Bush be able to send these additional troops over to Iraq and even a few to Afghanistan? The draft could be a perfect way to build up numbers. But I have a feeling the Democrats and the general public themselves wouldn’t stand for that. While I don’t agree with the war, I know people who would jump at the chance to go to war and fire off a few rounds.
50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, T.I., Lil’ Wayne, Lil’ Kim, Lil’ Flip Lil’ Scrappy and all of America’s toughest rappers are game.
These men and women always talk about gaining respect, what better way than serving their country. Most hip-hop artists speak of money, power, and respect. From seeing their videos they’ve got the money, and obtaining a high ranking position in the armed forces could give them the power and respect they crave so much. Eighty-three percent of all rap albums talk about the struggle of living in the hood and the wars fought there everyday. Why not put that experience to good use for their country.
Ninety-five percent of all rap albums talk about explicit sex. The last five percent are young hip-hop artists around the ages of twelve to fourteen. What better way to impress women and men then by showing off their purple heart. Just imagine if 50 Cent had gotten shot those nine times in Iraq, he’d be the next John McCain. In fact sending these brave heroes off to war could save the U.S. government millions if not billions of dollars.
It’s no secret that rappers and their entourage carry many weapons on them. The government wouldn’t have to buy them new weapons just ammunition, plus they already have their own bullet proof vests to protect themselves from each other. But I have a feeling that fighting for their country could squash any egos. In the hip-hop community rappers 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. are considered gods. Both were gunned downed nearly a decade ago, both murders remain unsolved. If a rapper would “heaven forbid” get gunned down in Iraq or Afghanistan, they could get their own holiday in between Martin Luther King Jr. day and Presidents day.
Like I said before I don’t agree with the war, but to pull out now could lead to an even bigger disaster. It might be time for President Bush to admit he made a mistake and ask other countries and the U.N. for advice. To me the power you have in your weakest state shows how strong you can be.
