Today I awoke to my son asking me how his baby sister was going and that he would like pancakes for breakfast before school (I am 7 months pregnant). After geting him breakfast I thought I would check on my e-mail before work as my sister lives in Korea and enjoys e-mailing me before she goes to work. I also thought I would check in on my account with threadless. (I have just recently become a member of this community). As I read the last comment I was hurt to think that someone could comment so harshly. Yes I have put myself out there for people to criticise but I was hoping for positive criticism not negative.
I like to think myself as an artist who over the years has developed my own style. Yes I am originally a sculpture and a painter and my influences from both these mediums have reflected my techniques in the digital media. I usually work with very organic material such as sticks, mud and twine. Digital is something new to me and my sketchy lines are deliberate as I would like my work to still have an organic feel to it.
Exploring the threadless site I was amazed at how many talented people there are in the world. Thats what I love about art that people can express themselves freely and be confident to not conform and create something that makes them feel good inside.
My morning started off good but I was hurt by the comment made to me today I guess thats an artist for you always sensitive and protective of their own work, and why not, we create from the heart. But the more I think about the comment I feel sorry for the person who made it because maybe they are not confident about themselves yet.
I think that is what being a real artist is, having the confidence to stand up and be different....

Sitting here listening to year 7 talk about bullying. They just had a meeting with an amazing teacher who is trying to stamp out bullying at our school. One student said that they should make up t-shirts with the slogan DOBBING IS GOOD.
WHY DOES BULLYING MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD AND POWERFUL?

This is my first blog and I am finding it hard to get started. So I'm just going to tell you a little about myself and what i do. I'm an art/music/computer teacher at my local high school, the school that I went to as an adolescent. Yes many people laugh at this because really i have never left school and a lot of the teachers that taught me i am teaching with now. It can be at times an amazing job, students have incredible imaginations. Students can also be difficult and challenging but usually these are the ones that give you the most reward at the end.
Anyway I will think of something more exciting to say next post.
