This shirt will be mine.

For the first time in a while I've seen a shirt that I must own. Mostly to satiate my obsession with cherry blossoms. I don't even care that it's printed on silver and is likely to wash out my pale, pale skin. I am all about sakura. I'm even going to grow up to be a samurai.

But the main reason this shirt will be mine is that I got a raise, so I can afford it. Go me!

But somehow I doubt that it would be considered HR appropriate. Plus, it's a white shirt again. Damnit! Although I suppose this shirt getting dirty would add to its charm...

I love the promo shots too. They remind me of this one episode of CSI that featured The Whitest Couple In The Universe. Some people are getting offended by either the shirt, the picture, or both, and really I have to think that they don't get it.

The whole point is irony. "The Ghetto" as most of us know it is a place where one would most certainly not stroll around gawking with a magenta umbrella in hand, and it would most certainly not be a place one would want to glorify by white-bread postcard art as has been simulated by the shirt.

Really, if you think about it, certain rappers have been doing the same thing for a decade or two before this shirt was ever a twinkle in the designer's eye. Only they weren't being ironic about it.

Oh, why am I wasting time writing about this when I need to be getting ready for work, where I couldn't wear this shirt anyway? *hapless sigh*

I've been reading the other blogs and the people going back and forth over it being "just a shirt" or a parody that people won't get because only the wearer knows the title. And suddenly I was reminded of my days in high school.

All of my female friends did *not* fit in with the stereotype. In fact, they were incredibly *anti*-stereotype to the point where I would get snarled at if I mentioned words like "cute" in their general direction, or if I assaulted them with pink. I would walk down the hot pink Barbie aisle in the toy store just to creep them out.

But secretly, I wanted to look at the Barbies in their pretty dresses.

After college I "came out" as a girly girl. Not the girliest or the style-savviest, but girly nonetheless. And you know what? I couldn't be happier about it. I like my skin care products and my swishy skirts and my jewelry boxes and my makeup brushes. They don't make me any less smart or any less capable as a person. And I know that I don't *have* to be this way, I *want* to be this way.

So, really, denying yourself in any form whether you're stereotypical or not just plain isn't good. So there. *nyah*

This is one of the most beautiful designs I've ever seen! ...Only it's on white. I don't wear white shirts. I'd get them too dirty. And they wash out my face.

Maybe I should just buy the shirt and hang it on my wall?
