after a week or two, i noticed that it hadn't gone away yet, and that it looked like a raised bump rather than just a discoloration. i didn't think much of it, though, because it didn't hurt or itch or seem to produce any side effects whatsoever. because of that, i never really was aware it was there other than when i looked closely in the mirror.

it never went away. worse, it got bigger. it wasn't some kind of drastic overnight size increase or anything, so it was hard to really notice it was getting bigger at first. but it was right on the edge of my cornea (the clear part that is in front of your iris/pupil), and that seemed a little scary.

i've been RIDICULOUSLY busy this quarter with grad school, and because it never seemed to be causing any real problems other than looking weird, i didn't go out of my way to fit in a doctor's appointment.

i finally went to the doctor today. i was really, really hoping they'd just say "here, these eye drops will clear it right up!" and send me on my merry way. guess not.

I GET TO HAVE EYE SURGERY!! YAAAAY!!

holy fuck. eye. surgery.

yeah, apparently it's officially a "growth" (as opposed to just a swollen vessel or some kind of allergic reaction), and due to its current size (officially 2.9mm tall by 1.9mm wide) and the rate at which it is growing, it is officially labeled a "medium-to-large, fast-growing" growth. and it is officially encroaching past the edge of my cornea.

they're going to do a biopsy to determine if it's benign or malignant, but either way they're going to have to surgically remove it.

surgically remove something from my fucking eye.

MY EYE.

here's what it looked like back in january, when it was just over 2mm long. it's now just under 3mm long, meaning it's just under 50% larger now :(

today i woke up and looked at my clock, and it said 7:14. i panicked a little and rushed to the bathroom and hurried through my morning routine. shaved, brushed teeth, washed face, took my multi-vitamin, etc etc. didn't have to take a shower, 'cause luckily i took one before i went to bed. anyway, i got out by 7:28 and knocked on my roommate's door (our signal to signify that i am indeed done with the bathroom), and went back to my room to start to get dressed.

i was picking out what sweater to wear, and i wanted to check the weather to see how cold it'd be. i don't always do this, but today i did. and it's a good thing i did! i refreshed weather.com, and it told me the weather for 2AM onward. i stared it puzzled and refreshed again. "wow, huh, maybe their servers got stuck at 2am?" i looked down at my computer clock: 1:29AM. i blinked a few times. "wow, wtf, how the heck did my clock get set wrong? what's going on?" i turned and looked at my other clock: 1:30AM...... then it sunk in.

somehow i woke up, wide awake and thinking it was morning, at 1:14AM, and misread the 1 for a 7. wtf. no wonder dan didn't get up to go take a shower. now i was wide awake and nearly-fully dressed at 1:30AM. took forever to get my body to accept it was actually nighttime and to fall back asleep :(

update:


lol, this was the start to a really terrible morning so far :(

i got my midterm back finally, and i did terribly. and it was entirely because my professor refused to try and understand what i did, and just took off all the points because it didn't exactly match what he was looking for. i went to talk to him in his office and he was really rude and literally refused to let me explain anything.

prof: "this is not right!"
me: "i recognize that i didn't approach the problem the way you had intended, and because of that my recurrence relation is not correct for the way you were looking at the problem, but can i please show you why it is correct for the way i approached it, and why my approach does indeed solve the problem correctly?"
prof: "no, because this is not correct. you can't prove to me that it is correct because i know it is not"
me: "again, i know it is not what you were looking for, but i can prove to you that it is a valid answer if you just let me"
prof: "no, you cannot, because it is not correct"

he did that with every single problem, and so eventually i got fed up and just said to him:

me: "you aren't listening to what i'm saying, and you won't listen to what i'm saying because you don't want to. you won't even give me a chance, and so i am not going to continue trying to argue with you."
prof: "good."


jeez-laweez!


then i went to make an appointment for the eye doctor, and the only time they had open for the next week and a half was friday at 9:30, which is the only time i can meet with my homework group to work on this week's homework. goddamnit.



and all the good machines at the gym were taken and i had to use the crappy one.
