I should sit down and check out some more of Richard Linklater's movies because "Waking Life" is the 4th of four of his movies I've seen and I enjoyed the crap out of it. I love all the ideas that get batted around, but the rotoscoping is so beautiful and wonderful to look at on its own!

I got my degree as a painter, so seeing the way they put everything together is so much fun. Not surprisingly I have the same experience with Linklater's "A Scanner Darkly", which is certainly cleaner and much more realistic but still just gorgeous to see.

Also, does anyone besides me feel like "Waking Life" is somewhat of a sequel to Linklater's first major film "Slacker"? Not to be confused with "Slackers". It seems like the dreamy, stream of consciousness vibe of "Slacker" is strangely solidified in the dream world of "Waking Life". It's like all those Austin slackers are lucidly living.

"Slacker" is one of my all time favorites. I can watch that movie almost anytime. If you've not seen it, at least give it one shot. It seems to be a love/hate case, but I am wholeheartedly on the love side of the equation:

Hello Threadless,

I would like to make more use of the blog feature here, so I figured I'd restart with an animation I helped make. How did I help make it, you may ask? I provided the drawings and my friend Aaron made the drawings move and dance and basically eat themselves! Sounds great, right?

So, without any further ado:

So I can blog on this thing. I new this, but never really had a reason to, not really anymore than I do tonight. I'm normally a livejournal person and even then I tend to mistrust the ease with which one can broadcast oneself on the internet. Too easily is how I--and I imagine plenty of other people on the internet-- let go of opinions and attitudes which are gravely malformed and reflect poorly on my character and mind.

So why am I writing here? Blah, damn ironic internet slef examinations in a public forum! There it is again, and again! Ad nauseum.

Blarg!

If you're curious, I guess I could tell you that I have a college education in Fine Art, with a concentration in painting. I graduated 3 years ago and have worked a ton of widely varying jobs while still managing to maintain a steady output from my studio, which is basically 80% of any living space I've had since graduation. I don't do a whole lot aside from working and then coming home to make art or read. I don't see the point in going to bars or seeing many movies, but I am a sucker for a good live concert.

So, this is part of why I'm writing here: I see no point in wasting my time on bars, alcohol, insipid summer blockbusters, or wine and cheese bullshit circuses at whatever botanical yuppie fartathon happens to be going on tonight in Atlanta.

I see much more of a point in making shirts and other kinds of art, the latter not visible on this particular website. If you want, here's the link to my makeshift, online portfolio:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/pressstarttobegin/

I have been drawing since the age of 6, and keeping a sketchpad with me for as long. I don't read as much as I'd like to, but I do read a little. My favorite book so far is probably Annie Dillard's "A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek". Fantastic book, really. So good.

I'm a big believer in trying to know a little about everything, principally because I believe it makes one's own creative output richer and more learned. This is good advice to take, of course, if your initial intention is to make work that is rich as opposed to shallow and forgettable.

"Junk in, junk out", as my drawing professor used to say and still does, I'd imagine. If all you read is comics and all you listen to is Linkin Park, don't expect to be mining the consciousness of your generation, friendo.
