THis is posted on this here old account because of reasons that involve the russian mafia - please don't tell them it's me.

OK so if you will permit me, I need to provide the proper back story before you can fully understand the arcade miracle. well... perhaps if considered conservatively it could be described as a grand arcade discovery - you be the judge.

And it goes back to 2001, When I purchased a neo-geo samurai shodown cabinet, I was very happy with the cabinet, Because Samurai Shodown was my most very favorite game as a teenager. I have very fond memories of dumping many quarters into a samurai that was in the godfathers pizza joint at the mall where I worked. I became a zen samurai shodown master -

years later, I was in a bowling alley for work. I heard the familiar standby tune and was immersed in the memories of ukyo coughing, haomaru drinking and tam tam hopping around.

The special thing about the cabinet is that it was a dedicated samurai - not a red neo geo. it still is a cartridge based system but it had the control panel and front graphics for samurai shodown 2. The front top panel and the game that came with it is samurai 4 - amakusa's revenge -

Great game, my kids grew up playing it, We have logged thousands of games - my extended family has even become proficient at the power and kill moves -

THe only disappointment I ever had with the cabinet was the side art, it was just black cabinet panels. They are in great shape but still just black - which is really lame considering how big an area it represents. - so we solved the problem by always placing it next to other games that have great side art (after the samurai cabinet, I started collecting arcades and pinballs) or hiding in in corner.

Anyhow - recently we have had our arcades and pinballs pretty thinned out, I have passed quite a few on - and gotten rid of some unfortunate machines that are beyond repair.

ON TO THE MIRACLE (grand discovery)

This past weekend I ran across a nintendo vs dual cabinet - it came with super mario and hogans alley, with chips for gunshoe (half the cabinet is a shooting gallery) it is a larger machine and I had to shift my other machines over to fit it in.

In the process... to my horror - my samurai cabinet got scratched by the bolts on the side of my black rose pinball - (the black rose is fine) but there was a big gouge in the black side panel of my samurai cabinet!

But under the tore black plastic, I saw an orange gradient, for a second I was thunderstruck by the implication! - had this cabinet that has been a member of my family for over 7 years been hiding a great secret?

(photo taken after i peeled away enough black to realize it was indeed a hidden side art panel.)

I enlisted the aid of my wife and daughter who have much better finger nails than I .
We were all very excited to see what laid beneath the familiar black panel.

And finally you can see the remarkably well preserved original cabinet art

so yeah, we are not done yet - and we still have the other side to do, (which also, it has been confirmed has the side art as well)

but that is my story
