question about radial gradients in illustrator

is there any way to change the angle of the gradient? say if i wanted to create a spherical-looking object with shading on one side.

i think you can do this with the gradient mesh, but i'd rather not use that tool.

how do you do that one thing in e-mails where you can't tell who else is receiving the e-mail? like in the "to:" column, it just lists your e-mail again.

clipping paths in illustrator

does anyone know why sometimes the clipping path just doesn't work in illustrator? like it'll mask out everything instead of the defined clipping area. i've already made sure that the clipping area shape thing is one united shape. this is dumb.
