Over the past few months, my tastes in music have shifted dramatically, mostly thanks to Hype Machine. If you haven't heard of it, you should probably check it out. It's a collection of songs from music blogs of all kinds all over the internet, and it has helped me discover some pretty wonderful stuff. The following list is a small selection of said wonderful stuff.

This list is eclectic as hell. So if you don't like the first song or two, keep trying... I reckon there's something in here for everyone.

1. Realboy - The Ritz

This song is just an impossibly fun take on an old classic. I chairdance whenever it's on, and I challenge you to not do the same.




2. The Chemical Brothers - Another World

I think this song is beautiful. Secondarily, the video is pretty damn cool.




3. Ellie Goulding - Lights (Messed Drum&Bass Remix)

I love her voice and I love the beat, and the two put together is just glorious. Can't stop listening.




4. Royksopp - Happy Up Here

This song was perfectly named. I cannot listen to it without feeling happy. The best thing ever was when it came on my iPod while I was riding my bike down a hill on a summer afternoon, hands-free, with the wind in my hair. Just the best.




5. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes - 40 Day Dream

A fair percentage of you probably will have heard "Home" by these guys, but I think this track is less popular. I would kill to see these guys live. I feel like they might change my life.




6. Hugo - 99 Problems

This is a fantastically weird cover. Classic Jay-Z turned into something that makes me want to wear plaid and go to a barndance. What more could a girl ask for?




7. M'Black - Heartbreak (Bare Noize Remix)

Yeah, I have a thing for dubstep remixes of songs with sexy female vocals. That's just how it is. If you're a dubstep fan, wait until the beat drops about one minute into this track and you will have an eargasm. If you're not a dubstep fan... Move along.




8. Sky Ferreira - Animal (Miike Snow cover)

The Miike Snow song is great. In my opinion, Sky Ferreira makes it even better. Just her beautiful voice, a piano, and some melancholy lyrics.




9. Converse - All Summer (Converse = Kid Cudi + Vampire Weekend + Best Coast)

This song makes me want to drive too fast in a car with all the windows down, preferably in the direction of a beach. The chorus is my faaaaave.




10. Geographer - Kites

This song is beautiful in the sad way. And it's the kind of sad where the first few times I listened to it, I didn't really realize just how sad it was. And then one time out of nowhere I was just like, "Holy SHIT, is this guy singing or crying?!" So, so beautiful.




11. Tame Impala - Solitude is Bliss

Now that I have knocked you down with that Geographer song, it only seems right to pick you back up. Want to have some fun? Tame Impala, baby!

So I'm going through my first ever experience of a long distance relationship. Unfortunately, this is like a long distance relationship on steroids or something else that's a way of exaggerating. Because my guy is in Costa Rica for 2 months, so I can't even call/text him. He gets to use the internet for about half an hour every few days, so I'll get a few short emails in a week, and one day every week he gets a day off of work and gets to use the internet for a more extended period of time. But even then, internet in Costa Rica is unreliable, so we get to video-chat for an hour or two while with his internet dropping out several times during the chat.

Blah blah blah broke up with my boyfriend. Blah blah blah been together for 7 years and lived together for 5. Blah blah blah tried to be friends for a while but he just emailed me saying it's too hard on him, blah blah blah he doesn't want to see me or talk to me anymore. Blah blah blah the beginning of our relationship was fairy-tale perfection and right now that's all I can think about and I miss it so much. That's not what it was like anymore though, and I haven't been single since I was 15, blah blah blah need time to live for myself, learn from my own mistakes, and figure out who I am.
