So we're going to have a big sausage cookout sort of party at our place sometime in August, and being a t-shirt designerish person, I thought that such an occasion demanded its own shirt. And of course, it could only be improved through cheesy faux-vintage styling, and an apologetic double entendre.

I have a friend who has access to a screenprinting press, so I think I'll actually physically print these myself, which sounds like lots of fun.
Even though it IS missing the light beam behind it, I still desperately want one of these awesome Swiss machines. They're around $81k though, so I think I'd have to get about 40 prints to be able to afford one.

I'm betting Hogboy and Glennz each have one, and race them around kiwiland.

Some people just have too much damn time on their hand. I can't even fathom having the patience to custom build a SMB level just so the sounds time out as electronic percussion, much less testing it out, then running the levels perfectly. Confused? Just watch and be amazed:

About the process:
The first step was to find enormous replicas of brass instruments, which is not as easy as it looks. Like so many things, they seem to be EVERYwhere until you actually need one, at which point they have mysteriously vanished from the face of the earth. I eventually found these at the bottom of a strangely glowing mound in the back of a second-hand shop.

After that, all I had to do was replace the barrels of these war engines with the musical instruments, don a general's hat, and have my friend take this picture with his experimental new camera that films in Halftone-o-vision™. I was hoping to do the whole thing without any Photohouse trickery, but we were never able to get the right exposure to capture the musical notes, so I admit that I did have to add that in post.

I hope this has been both entertaining and instructional. If so, please take a moment to vote or comment.

Thanks!

Wow, I had no idea this was being reprinted until I saw it up on the front page today. What an awesome surprise! Thanks so much to everyone who commented and voted on the original sub, and also to everyone who requested a reprint!

Some of my designs change a good deal from the initial concept to the final execution, but this one stayed almost exactly the same as the original tiny sketch I made on the edge of my notebook while we were at my wife's great-aunt's house watching dull network television last Thanksgiving. See for yourself:
