I saw a small part of this awhile back, but just now found the full video. It's an incredibly inventive concept for a stopmotion animation technique, and is pretty mesmerizing to watch.

About the process:
The first step was to find enormous replicas of brass instruments, which is not as easy as it looks. Like so many things, they seem to be EVERYwhere until you actually need one, at which point they have mysteriously vanished from the face of the earth. I eventually found these at the bottom of a strangely glowing mound in the back of a second-hand shop.

After that, all I had to do was replace the barrels of these war engines with the musical instruments, don a general's hat, and have my friend take this picture with his experimental new camera that films in Halftone-o-vision�. I was hoping to do the whole thing without any Photohouse trickery, but we were never able to get the right exposure to capture the musical notes, so I admit that I did have to add that in post.

Wow, I had no idea this was being reprinted until I saw it up on the front page today. What an awesome surprise! Thanks so much to everyone who commented and voted on the original sub, and also to everyone who requested a reprint!

Some of my designs change a good deal from the initial concept to the final execution, but this one stayed almost exactly the same as the original tiny sketch I made on the edge of my notebook while we were at my wife's great-aunt's house watching dull network television last Thanksgiving. Total desperation - need your help!

So last week, someone from Warner Music Group emailed me through my contact page at my site. Unfortunately, due to a COLOSSAL error on the part of my webhost, instead of sending me the email, the form mailer decided to rip it to e-particles and completely destroy it.

I've been trying for a week to try to recover it, but to no avail. I can's say for sure what the email contained, but as it was through my portfolio site, I have to imagine it was work-related, which means that I've just lost a huuuuge opportunity.

So here's where you come in (hopefully). Does anyone here know ANYone at Warner Music? I just need a little inside help to try to track down whoever it was that emailed me in the first place, so maybe I won't lose this chance.

I need a drink.

I just saw that a group named "Sonmi Suite" is playing here in Asheville on Thursday, and got all excited, thinking it was the REAL Sonmi, but apparently it's just three dudes that for some reason are using the same name. How disappointing. And strange.
