After bouncing around different media since my art school days,* using everything from acrylic paint on canvas, pen and ink, rapidographs (hated them more than spinach), brush and ink (love it more than sex . . . er, that's not true) in my cartooning days, pigma ink pens (thumbs up!), vector illustrations using Adobe Illustrator, water color (yeah) and pencil, I've settled onto pencil and water color as my all-time favorites.
Why? Drawing with pencil allows me to capture the energy of my initial sketch, where my instincts are in play. As long as I don't over-render the drawing it still maintains the energy and looseness I've grown to love. Scan it and adjust the contrast in Photoshop and suddenly I have the best of two worlds: drawing energy and pen and ink substance. The Peace Droid and the Dove submission was created with pencil and water color. I keep the two separate until they are assembled in layers in Photoshop. You'll be seeing more submissions using those media in the month to follow. I'd be grateful for any positive scoring given to my Peace Droid - six days left! Rick Note: * Philadelphia College of Art - now University of the Arts |
I haven't submitted any photos. I guess I don't want free money.
What is there to say? I draw pictures for a living. Oh, did I tell you that I'm married to a hot redhead?
