nice illo! Maybe try a real tshirt model, it can make a lot of difference even though it shouldn't.

EricDiaz on Aug 25 '09 at 5:33pm
Plus if it prints you get to spread the wealth with the model or photographer.

But I did--it was the second frame of my flash. People even said my presentation was good. Should the real tee be the first frame? Is that one of the problems?

dont get hung up on a score too much, just keep trying :) most of my frist designs scored really bad
EricDiaz
EricDiaz on Aug 25 '09 at 5:39pm
ah, goes to show you that some people don't even bother looking at the other flash frames.

that score is total bullshit!!
i'm not an artist though and i'm new to threadless so I don't know what they want. sorry!

It is a good idea, but it doesn't really integrate with the shirt that well (kinda sits on it). Keep trying though, your stuff looks promising.

TheInfamousBaka on Aug 25 '09 at 5:41pm
Honestly, I didn't even look at the other frame initially. Why look for it when you have the placement on the first one? Next time, I'd show the design on one frame and the placement on the next. :) Just keep trying!

Thanks for the honest feedback--it really is helpful!

@ alex: Thanks so much! You're the greatest! I was in tears until I took a look at your early designs. At first I didn't believe you--I thought "what's a low score to Alex Solis? a 2.9??" But you weren't kidding. Thanks!!:D

don't let it get you down. there have been way worse scores. keep on trying. Mine never do so great. As condecending as this may sound, just sub for the love of what you are doing and think of the scores as a bonus

@Malzmania-bro your slogans are awesome! I read them all and laughed really loud--and I was home alone--sometimes I think that's as weird as drinking alone.:)

@ ryder: dude, Pirates of the Hairibean?! I nearly peed myself! Why didn't they print that??

Thanks for making me laugh guys. :D

You've definitely have the tools to get printed. Just keep going at it. Judging by this submission, you've definitely have an idea what a good concept/idea is, with humor to boot! Keep your head up :)

Thanks everybody for the kind words and sharing some of your low scores.:) I guess this is all just one big learning process.

Brighter colors (or at least, more variation in color) probably would have helped, too.

HA! Don't me started on color for this one! Took me two weeks to pick that color scheme--maybe that's my problem--I can't pick colors.:)

a score above 2.0 is still an OK score at Threadless. It is still underscored, but hope it doesn't put you off! don't let the haters stop you submitting!

you should post a blog about blue moon monkey - that was so underscored!

charity.ryan on Sep 02 '09 at 9:23am
Yeah, I might rework that one. Maybe on a shirt the same color as the leaves so it blends. People seem to like shirts where the design sorta melds with it--like yours skyfly!:)
Brightwood
Brightwood on Sep 02 '09 at 9:28am
I think the execution is good. Perhaps if you gave it a setting, like put a display window in the back and a few scared, gawking kids peering in the window. Just add to the story. There is also a bit of a culture aversion to black outlines at Tl. There is nothing innately wrong with black outlines, but you will read many comments of "don't like". If you outline with a darker color of the shirt color you choose, you may see it blend it a bit more with the tee.

Thanx Brightwood! That was a comment I was waiting for!:) Everyone else was super nice and cheered me up, but I seriously wanted to know why the low score--so thnx!!

Really sad to hear you were in tears charity. Please don't let it get you down just keep on at it. After a while you'll get more of a feel for what threadpeeps like and then you'll be set!! You've got some good illustration skills so don't get disheartened!

hey charity.
i would say this: don't worry about it. your designs are awesome, your painting style is beautiful and individual, so just keep trying. it's the same for me, i think for everyone. we put up subs that we've bled over and then we find out that not everyone loved them - it's just the way it is. if you check out the early subs of all the people doing well now, like buko, alex, roadkill3d and so on, you will see that their first subs have scores like 1.5!
just keep trying! ;-)

ok no pity from me but I just have to say that your last one struck me as a little gay like they were computer dating or somthing.

but i liked the halftone usage!

you just need to work on your execution is all, try a cleaner drawing style and cutting down on the use of halftones

ayearinreview
   ayearinreview on Oct 10 '09 at 10:53am
The designs I've done as of late, which I think are superior to my early ones, are scoring lower. Thing is, the voting climate's fluctuate constantly as traffic through the site shifts and varies. A 3 during this point of time, or a three during this year, or a three during this or that month, etc etc constantly means different things. There are plenty of designs with 2.6's, some even below, that get printed.

If a lot of people tell you that your designs are awesome, ie; specifically the community, and you're not getting printed ... trust me, it's going to happen. Positive reception, and the amount of reception in general, play a major part in the selection process. Sometimes, this supersedes voting scores. Like anyone here will tell you, scores aren't everything.

Yeah I guess I got alittle halftone crazy, brentendo.:) thanks for being honest--I ALWAYS appreciate honesty.

and yeah jingleheimer, there were a few commments that made me wonder about that. "Sleepless in Seatle, they make a cute couple..." :D

Thanks even, ryder and ayearinreview. As always, the people on this sight are the best! :)
