how do you do those "not-so-perfect" lines (ex. sonmi's Monday)?

Because if I do it using a wacom, the lines are shaky since I'm not used to it yet. And if I do it using Illustrator, the lines are all in the same thickness which removes the hand-drawn feel to it. Is there some sort of pressure sensitivity setting that you guys use for your wacom?

Please shed some tips. Thanks!

Before anything else, make sure to click that "Watch this" button on the top-right corner there.

All set? Okay.

I know, you just recently signed up and you're that excited to be part of the community. Well I hope this survival guide will help you and I hope you enjoy your stay here.

1. What are STP? Why do you keep seeing them in the blogs? Well, STP is short for Street Team Points. And STP works when another buyer use your link (can be seen in your profile) prior to checking out with the items he/she just bought. If a transaction was successful, you earn 2 points (equivalent to 3 dollars). Easy as that. And when you gather enough points, you can buy shirts for free. More about that here.

2. New shirts are updated every Monday (with the exception of special occasions ex the 30-Day Sale). Here is the usual breakdown of printed shirts:

- one (1) SELECT*
- five (5) designs from the competition
- one (1) Type Tee**
- two (2) reprints from the Sold Out*** section
  • *SELECT shirts are made by leading artists invited by Threadless to make them a design. The designs do not undergo the 4-color limit and they can go as big as the designer wants. SELECT designs are also printed on American Apparel shirts, that's why they are being sold for $25 each (both for guys and girls)

  • **Type Tees are slogans scored by people whether they would wear it or not. Although some slogans gather a high score and amount of people who score it, the staff still has the last say on which slogan to print. This goes with the design competition as well.

  • ***The reprinting of sold out shirts depend on how many people are asking for a reprint. So if you see a sold out shirt that you like, just click the "Reprint Me" link under your size. No need to make a blog about it forcing people to ask for reprints (although sometimes it works) since some people find it annoying. If you're a designer and your shirt got picked for reprinting, you will receive $500 as payment.

And one thing, asking for a reprint under the Retired section would be pointless. Retired shirts are history. Period.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HINT: To know which shirts are printed even before the show up in the main page, check out the Monday New Shirt blog (don't forget to click the "Watch this" button so you'll have it bookmarked).

3. Threadless 12club are exclusive, members-only shirts. Every month, the staff picks a design from the running and prints it. You won't get a 12club shirt unless you pay $200 ($250 for International members) subscription fee. 12club members receive an exclusive shirt for a whole year (meaning if you bought a subscription in March 2006, you will receive the April 2006 until March 2007 shirt). More info about that here.

4. Alumni Club is the latest addition to the Threadless website. What is the Alumni Club, you asked? Well, it's a club to all those whose designs have been chosen and printed by Threadless. Simply put, if your design wins, you will become an Alumni Club member* and will have privileges such as an Alumni Club membership card (that can be used at the Threadless Store**), access to the Alumni Blogs*** and more. For full details, click here.
  • *"How do I know if I'm an Alumni already?" The Alumni shield will show up on your profile, and your name color will change from blue to lavender.

  • **The Threadless Store is the very fist store put up in Chicago and all I know is that it's awesome and it sucks that I can't go to the grand opening.

  • ***Alumni Blogs are members-only blogs where the winning designers have a private chat and sometimes do some magical things like collaborations, contests, themed design submissions etc. If you're not an Alumni yet, you can't see what's been going down.

5. Ranting about designs printed is very common. If you don't like the design, DON'T BUY IT. No one is forcing you to do so. No need to go berserk about it. Always remember: be nice. Think that the designer did his best to come up with a design for you to just bash it up telling everyone how you hate it.

6. Don't rant about designs as if you were here since day one:
  • "Fuck the shirts nowadays blow

  • What the hell happened to Threadless?!?!?!?!"

  • Do you call that a SELECT?!?

What the? You're here for like 2 months and you're complaining about how previous shirts were better than the later prints? You don't know shit about the printing system of Threadless so I guess it's best to just shut up. This is a common mistake for newbies.

7. Threadless Loves are theme-based competitions. Themes are usually set by a company partner and they give additional prizes along with the normal running prize ($2000 cash, $500 store credit and exclusive Alumni Club membership). So before you make a blog telling everyone you're sick and tired of seeing design submissions that uses the same theme/material/concept, why don't you check the Loves section first (hover to Participate, then click the blue heart).

8. Even though you're tired of seein' them, quit complaining about reprinted designs. Threadless is a business outfit, and they need to reprint what they think is good for the business; what would sell.

9. Don't do 1337 $p3@k!! So far only Candiru writes like this (I think). Even though it's a compliment on your subpage, it's still fucking annoying!

10. Prior to knowing how number 1 works, it's good to ask people to use your link. Just don't be a complete asshole like thegetupkidsx3 (I think he's history) blogging about every product, begging for STPs. Not good at all.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMINDER: Because of the controversial "STP blog hack", you can only acquire STPs from using your link to other sites, blogs or emails. Meaning if a member clicks your link here, you won't get STPs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11. Posting images in the blogs is allowed, but not on the subpages and the Threadless News pages. If you want to post an image, upload it first (you can try Imageshack, flickr, PhotoBucket, Hidebehind :) or any free image hosting sites). Then type this in the comment box below:

<img src="http://your/image/link/here">.

Just remember to keep your images small (640x480 seems okay). Think about the 56k users.

I hope you find this guide useful to make it out alive here. Welcome to the jungle.
