I usually just laugh him off, because he's a nutbag, this being another fine example:

"There are a bunch of computer geeks out there who think that the video game industry has a constitutional right to paint a bullseye on your back and on your officers' backs..."

But now I think I'll have to bump him up from major annoyance to full-blown insane. Shut up, Jack.

Well, the Penny Arcade guys are being a bit extreme.

C'mon, its like prodding a fly who had it's wings torn off.

Every arguement I've read that tells of the 'evils of videogames' has logical holes and demands certain conditions. That, or they left questions that caused the whole arguement to collapse. Some of these arguements are exaggerated on comparisons to video games.

Its not the video games that are making children violent. True, children are impressionable. But where the hell were the parents when these kids had these games? Even if they were allowed to play those games by ERSB standards, parents should step in and control THEIR child's gamelist.

Some of this kids should also be responisble. If they cannot seperate reality from fiction, then can the companies really be blamed?

I've heard that comic books went through a similar stage, but not so drastic as this.

People need a scapegoat. They can't seem to realize that there are lurking variables in our society. What about high crime rates? Obsession with violence in the news media? What about the 'war on terrorism'?

There is too much shit orbiting it all to blame it on video games.

dude, Bela Fleck rocks

I think that thesegames are played WAY too much but there is no evidence that I have heard that is convincing enough to make me believe that video games make kids anything other than fat

I just find it disturbing that he still has influence and continues to spread inaccuracies.

Violent movies have warnings, music has lables for explicit lyrics, and yes, videogames have content ratings. All these mediums have been under fire as a cause of violence and anti-social behaviors. The violence, profane language, and suggestive themes are under attack here whereas lack of parental interest and control is the real issue.

I was just going to say the same thing, happywok. The scary thing is that the mainstream media sees him as an expert on the subject.

I think that's changing, though. He dug his own grave with this stunt.

Notice that he calls the defendants of video games 'computer geeks'.

His writing style worries me. It confirms his lack of expertise and grace in arguements. Being an attorney, he is required to write and speak constantly. This leads me to a question: How come this didn't happen to him EARLIER? Didn't someone notice that he was an idiot behind the disguise of a debonair monster all this time?
