about On The Plains
I mostly approve of the design for this shirt, although it does promote the idea that Native Americans only existed in the 1800s . The threadless team, however, which arranged and posed for the photo demonstrates serious lack of knowledge and discrimination for Plains Indians. I am a Plains Indian; I am Lakota Sioux from South Dakota, USA. We did not nor do we currently use tomahawks for battles or fighting. The man in the forefront with a feather in his hair illustrates the most racism of the whole photo. Feathers are sacred; while he wears a silly, colored feather without any care for proper placement. His hand is posed in a common, discriminatory 'woo-woo' sound' which no Native American has uttered seriously. White settlers used that sound to ridicule, and belittle Natives of our traditional songs and dances. I sincerely hope you reconsider the latent racism and lack of knowledge Threadless is currently supporting through this photo. ~jazz~
