If this is suppossed to be a political shirt; kick it to the curb. The great thing about the shirts here is there is no bias. No left, no right. No pro war or anti war. Lets leave that crap of this site.

the idea of armed forces is to protect your nation, should anyone attack it.

anytime one nation has set up occupation or totally wreaked havoc on another country (even under the guise of hunting down one man) history tends to show that as an invasion.

WW2 was different in that is was the entire world trying to stop a force before they did any more damage. too late for the jews, though.

to say that we are 'going over there' to keep them from 'coming over here' is bullshit. they are already here, and they are still coming. they're training in the hills of arkansas for god's sake. our national security is worse than ever, because if anything happened here now, we're understaffed.

of course, i wouldn't be surprised if the Giv WANTED another 911 to further justify thier cause and crackdown on rights.

as for the citizens of Iraq, if the tables were turned and China was occupying america in the same way, i can gaurantee you that me and my friends would take up any arms we could.

but personally, i think we have covert ops guys keeping things chaotic over there right now, and blaming the now non existant regime fighters/al-queda

that's all i have to say. this is just a shirt.

threadless has surprised me by picking 2 semi political shirts lately, but probably because they are very vague metaphors against government or war, not just an easy bush joke. both this and the flat house could be used under any administration.

in the end, it's up to threadless, but we as avery important generation really shouldn't just sit by and ignore all the bad things and lies and distract ourselves with happy animal/food shirts.
BlameTheSuburbs
   BlameTheSuburbs on Nov 22 '05 at 12:11pm
It isn't political, it's true.
MrDomino
   MrDomino on Nov 22 '05 at 12:14pm
Also, why should we ignore what happens around us, especially when it is so important? That's just the problem really no one DOES care. No one realizes that like 90% of the media is owned by AOL Time Warner, and that they aren't saying everything that's going on. Because you and everyone else doesn't want to know. Because we've all been conditioned to focus on consuming and collecting little meaningless trinkets to distract us from the ugly reality that most of us just live to work to support the obsession of consumption. Anyone who stands up and tries something different is an asset to any community. I'm very glad that Threadless has printed two shirts that make some socially responsible statements, and I hope they do more.

"WW2 was different in that is was the entire world trying to stop a force before they did any more damage. too late for the jews, though."

Thats dabatable, us British and the French were trying to appease Hitler for a long time, it was only until Hitler became a threat to us that we were prepared to take up arms. We were quite happy to sacrifice anybodies territories apart from our own and our allies.

Infact the only reason the Americans even fought against the germans was because of the alliance with Britian, if that didnt exist then America would very likely of just ignored europe and take on Japan.

Anyway back on topic, if you dont think this is political your a fucking moron, and if you dont think this is anti war then doubly so. The shirt is hardly vague its saying that for every medal a general gets thousands of lives have been lost to earn it thus the medals are heavy.
Robsoul
   Robsoul on Nov 22 '05 at 12:22pm
I'm all for political tees. I think this was a cartoon from WWI, the great War, the war that was suppose to end all wars, as the saying goes.

Unfortunately our MORAL civilization continues to develop weapons that are capable of destroying humanity 10 x over. Thou shalt not kill, love thy neighbour... religion in a terrible lie, whether you are Muslin, Jewish or Christian, you all seem to want to exterminate everyone else... ALTHOUGH YouR F$^%^& religions preach the contrary... don't you guys get it???? Save the babies, anti abortion rallies all the way, and when these SAVED babies grow up, train them in the militray and teach them to kill kill kill and be killed.

War is inevitable, it's part of the human beast but for christ sakes someone please get rid of Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, these idiots didn't listen to the generals at all and have committed our troops to an obscene crusade in Iraq. This is what happen in Vietnam, the politicians ran the war, in WWII it was Bradley, Eisenhopwer and Monty, the generals ran the war... this shirt should actually depict a politician wearing the medals.

I could go on ... but I'll stop, good points Travis.

travis76

stubby- you're right, i was just trying to simplify WW2 for those whose immediate reactions to anyone opposing this war is 'but what about WW2?'...
travis76
   travis76 on Nov 22 '05 at 12:28pm
and by vague i meant 'not at any one gov/war/leader'. sheesh.
Robsoul
   Robsoul on Nov 22 '05 at 12:28pm
"its saying that for every medal a general gets thousands of lives have been lost to earn it thus the medals are heavy. " - too true, I think in the Somme (the road to emmos) the Brits and French lost 58,000 men in one day of fighting... 58,000 ... specifically because the preliminary bombardment failed to destroy the german defenses and the general;s still sent their soldiers in instead of waiting for a confirmation that the defenses had indeed been destroyed..oopsy

Boy, Bryan, you sure caught the mood of the community with this post. Congrats! You should become community seer. You won't have to work. We'll all pitch in to support you (with, say, a tenth of our earnings). And you can tell us what to avoid (shirts like this) and who to smite (thine enemies, no doubt).

every time i wear this shirt i hope it evokes as much commotion and political conversation as is occurring in this blog.

that is why i love threadless. everything becomes a debate over politics, even when the subject matter isn't.

personally i enjoy the more bold and political designs though, like this one. woot woot.

Yeah, in the Somme the Brits were losing massive amounts of men. Something like 420,000 in the 4.5 months of the Somme in '16.

Forced them to begin the draft.
