I recently was wondering how a chinese typewriter worked or what it looked like. Seemed to me like it would be very complex since the language has 1,000's of characters.

Apparently there is one which was patented in 1947, but did not become produceded commercially. It was called the Ming Kwai, which means "clear and quick". The typist had basic forms to construct the characters which he or she would press simultaneously along with several keys (acting as a sort of function key) to give the typist an even greater range of charachters. It boasts up to 90,000 characters that can be produced on one machine.

still, it seems less complicated than this one....
