since it came up on my latest sub, i was wondering how many people rate on the tshirt colour as well as the design?

on every sub you see, there are people who say stuff like "i would $5 if it wasn't on white" or "i don't wear pink, but if i did..."

does the shirt colour effect your rating, or do you score on the design and assume threadless will fix any unpopular choices? i would like to think so...

I had a massive rant about this a while back, it really pisses me off when someone rates by tshirt colour or somethign equally as stupid. I know a lot of the bloggers will agree with me.

Yeah, a good design is a good design, the tee colour can be changed if it's chosen for printing.

there's shirts i've bought despite their colour if the design is good enough. bad shirt colour can't be helped given the range availanble, but bad design colour is inexcusable.

it just irritates me how short sighted people are. it's like walking into a house that you're willing to spend £200,000 on, and saying "i don't like the wallpaper, worth £200, so i won't bother with the house."

i don't rate on shirt colour, but if it's a design i would buy, i do generally comment that i would only buy it on a different colour.

this happened to me on Fruit of the Plume. really nice design riuned (for me) by a yellow tee, but you would be a right muppet to mark a design like that down because of shirt colour preference.

sorry leon, but i buy shirts based on whether i would wear them, and if i wouldn't or couldn't wear the colour, then no matter how good the design is, i'm not buying.

no one's asking you to hand out cash, just vote fairly. i'm not trying to tell you how to spend your hard earned ;)

I don't rate the colour, but it may be worth mentioning it in the comments, if you really hate the colour. I never have strong feelings one way or another.

no steve i agree with you. i won't normally buy a colour i hate, but i did buy a couple which i almost never wear just because i really wanted the designs regardless of the colour.

ok....here's what I have to say on this:

MOST people vote on what they see. The general Joe P. Idiot is going to be going through the subs and just vote on what they see infront of them.
So, I think shirt color does play into it and is important. You should do your best to present the best color options you can on what appears on the page the sub is on.
I mean....presentation is important in anything relating to designing. So....it's important here too.
There have been times where I admit I have knocked a good (not GREAT) design down a point for god awful colors. I mean....if the colors suck...I'm sorry, but, that's how it works.

presentation is important, but as long as you don't choose completely contrasting ugly colours surely it doesn't matter too much?

I don't know...
I think it's silly to think that color choices aren't important.
I mean, you're dealing with the majority of people who don't feel bad at all just giving someone a Zero just cause they don't like it.
I would be willing to bet that there are several people who just look at a design for a second or 2 and judge it. If your colors aren't what they like, you could be screwed.

I'm just saying that I wouldn't think of color as some throw away last priority. I think it's highly important......that's all.

By several, jeremy means hundreds.

You occassionally see a comment like "this is great, I'd like it better on blue..." It's usually more like: "I hate natural. 0."

This means that the artistic merit of the work was almost wholey ignored. But what can you do? Nada. People that vote this way will continue to do so. Sad but true...

I rate on the design, but often the shirt colour does effect the way I view the design anyhow.

Most people nowadays expect you to offer alternate colour schemes in your blogs. This is all fine and dandy, and may help you score higher than what you may have scored had you only placed the design on one colour shirt and with only one colour scheme.

The major downfall however is if your design gets picked for printing and threadless chooses one specific tee colour to print on and then you get 75% of people saying that they wanted it on tee colour option #234 offered in the blogs.

That happened to me when rand=[enter] was printed. Everyone loved the design when it was up for scoring, but once printed most became haters due to the yellow tee :/

It's a catch 22 situation. Do you offer other colour options to appease some voters and perhaps score higher than what you may have, but risk people whining about the tee colour threadless choose to print.... or do you offer one option and have people whine about the lack of colour options and thus score it lower.

i won't rate a shirt lower because i don't like the shirt colour, but i might rate a shirt higher because the shirt colour is used effectively with the design.

I agree with .moto. 100%. Same can be true for the colors used in the design.
