I've watched thousands of films only once. If I don't like a film I won't watch it again. Simple. I found Salo very dull by the way.

I'll say, d3d. I had to watch that numerous times for my film studies class. I'm really not a fan of Peter Greenaway.

What is it with film studies classes and greenaway. I saw that too in film studies class. It's like film 101 :
DW Griffith's Birth of a nation
Luis Buñuel's Un chien andalou
Sergei M. Eisenstein's The Battleship Potemkin
Orson Welles' Citizen Kane
Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange
Throw in a Greenaway film, quite possibly a Goddard flick like Alphaville to cover the French New Wave. Screen Easy Rider or Bonnie and Clyde for the American New Wave.

Tell me you didnt watch at least 80% of those in film class... and it doesn't matter what part of the world you are, thats almost always what is taught.

btw We had Salo on our film studies list, but it's banned in Oz and our lecturer couldnt get a copy so we mmissed out.

Ha! I watched ALL of those. Plus a token film noir. I had to write my final essay on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, meaning I watched that over and over... *shudders*

How could I forget film noir... oh and definetily add a Buzby Berkely (sp?) musical. I'm opening up my own film school gawd dammit!

On a lighter note, we got to choose three films to 'analyze' throughout the course. I chose Predator, Robocop and Blue Velvet, so all was not lost. I found that if you bullshitted about hidden meanings and connotations, you'd do good.

d3d
   d3d on Nov 23 '05 at 4:34am
gah, Blue Velvet!
We had to watch a lot of David Lynch, Wim Wenders, Greenaway, Kubrick, and some bizarre russian thing called Stalker which i don't remember anything about but it wasn't awful.

I still haven't seen Tarkovsky's Solaris, although I didn't actually hate the George Clooney version.

Tim Roth's The War Zone is something most people probably end up watching only once. Well I have at least even thought bought the damn DVD.

i admit they were fun years. it was 94-96 for me, and the uniform was the same. pure grunge.
there never seemed to be any lack of black wearing talentless prat critics about though.
gerpander
gerpander on Nov 23 '05 at 4:53am
I've seen some of Trier's dogma stuff, but they're so utterly dull that I haven't finished watching them.
eskimokiss

I really enjoyed The Idiots. True about the characters though. And yeah, most of the other dogme stuff is as dull as a foggy night in Finland.
