Cholesterol Affected by Essential Fatty Acids



Lots of essential fatty acids affect
cholesterol considerably which means how fatty acids help decrease the bad fats from the body. The common concept that fats are bad for the body is not true. In fact, fats are important. However, it is the good fat and not the bad fat which is important. Bad fat can cause unnecessary weight gain. But, fats also known as lipids provide cushioning to the vital organs. Good fats are a source of energy and also help in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins.

There are three basic categories of fats- saturated fats, unsaturated fats and fatty acids. The more saturated fats, the more you are likely to have cardiovascular diseases and cardiac risk. One should minimize the consumption of animal fats, red meat which are rich in bad cholesterol or LDL (low density lipoproteins). Saturated fats is the cause of many of the health problems such as obesity, coronary heart diseases and alike. The cholesterol which is affected by essential fatty acids shows how essential fatty acids (EFAs), vital nutritional components are used in many important functions in the body.


Essential fatty acids are found in the seeds of plants and in sea fishes. EFAs or sometimes referred as Vitamin F are supplied from outside the body. These fatty acids are not made within the body. One such fatty acid is the Omega 3 fatty acids found in sea fish. Recent studies have proved it that Omega 3 fatty acids help lower the triglycerides level and LDL or
bad cholesterol. It also helps increase the level HDL or
good cholesterol. To bring back blood cholesterol to normal cholesterol levels, cholesterol management requires you to have regular amount of fatty acids in your diet.
