okay.. so i applied for a graphic design position.
and luckily got an interview on monday.

sooo. who has had graphic design type interviews?!
i never had one. let me know what they ask. im reaaaally nervous about it. i never realyl had many job interviews ... i've been doing freelance for so long and had some jobs in the past just handed over to me so i'm going to guess i'll suck at the interview since i'm not used to them.

help meeee. i need this job. i want to finally move out of my parents house. i'm turning 24 soon god damn it.

Be nice, don't act cocky, prove that you know your programs, show a strong portfolio that is well put together and not just pages that you grabbed on your way out the door and have fun! Relax. You'll do just fine ;)

so its all organized and stuff. so that part should be okay. and they already seen lots of my work on my site.

It's also very clear from your website that you are incredibly talented. I'd hire you in a heartbeat.

Good luck artie! Your site looks great, and you have a solid web portfolio - - I'm in the same boat as you, I have my first interview in San Francisco a week from today, and I'm a bit anxious about the whole thing.

I'm sure you'll be fine though. Just be confident. And if all else fails, grab them by the front of their shirt, lift them up, and scream "IT'S MY JOB, BITCH!! GIVE IT TO ME!!"

That's always worked well for me.

Actually, wait. That's probably the reason i'm relocating from Chicago to San Francisco.

Ha, good look anyway though =).

thanks guys.. thanks little g!

also. i had a job offer from vagrant records in california to be like an in house designer. mostly web stuff. i did not take it (too far from where i am). so if anyone in california , or who wants to move there is looking for a design job (again.. its mostly web) try to apply at vagrant. maybe they're still looking. they just asked me last week.

Be prepared to back up your work... don't fight them just back it up. They will ask you "why did you do this, what was the reasoning..." don't say because I thought it looked good, come up with a reason even if it's complete b.s.

If someone says something about a piece criticizing it, say thank you and either explain why you chose to do it the way you did, or just admit to not considering that angle.

They will ask you what you think your best and worst piece is and what you feel you are strongest in. Be careful, ask others what they think is your strongest work. It's bad to think you are best at type applications, and the interviewer thinks that's your weakest spot.

Always loved your work. If these blokes know a good thing when they see it, they'll give you a shot. Congrats on making it this far and good luck!

thanks!!

i believe the only thing that they're not too happy with is that i haven't done a ton of print work. a lot of web.. but not enough print.. and they do mostly print.

i know i can do it.. they just gotta go out on a limb and let me do it. hahah
