I'm using a 40d atm, d3 is droolworthy but I am sure canon will release an equivalent to replace the 5d within the next 12 months.

depends if there is a photopit or not valor, but I shoot with a photo pass usually so I can get in free. Otherwise it's down to trying to smuggle in camera gear or not.

do you use a company name to get passes or do most places give passes to freelancers? i used to get sideline passes to shoot college football games just by saying i was a freelancer.

also, since you are handy with le camera...

i'm camera shopping. i don't want to spend $1500, i'd consider $1250, expecting to spend at least a grand. what should i get? feel free to be as brief or long-winded with your answer as you want. i just need some input since i know next to nothing about cameras other than point and shoot. i have nothing specific i'm buying this for, though i do like to shoot sports.

Do you want an dslr snakeman? you could get a cheap 400d thatd get the job done, the 450d is hugely overrated and kinda crap, but its driving the 400d prices down which is a good thing for buyers.

i'll look into that, thanks. if i can get a good deal on the camera, i might be willing to spend more to get a sweet lens.

well after a couple days of research, i went ahead and pulled the trigger. bought the xti. also bought a 70-200 f/4L USM and a 50mm f/1.8.

outside of cars, my first expensive toy. pretty excited.

Both lenses are great for what they are used for, only thing missing is something that goes wideangle, but that will come in time/addiction!

Remember DSLRS are hard to master at first so don't get down if you hate your shots when you start off.

i actually have used a dslr before, borrowed my sister's nikon to shoot a football scrimmage.

nothing groundbreaking there. a real photographer would have been on the field, and on the other side of the field.

i'm absolutely ignorant when it comes to all those different settings and modes and tweaks, and that's what i'll have to learn. but it'll be fun. the nice thing about digital cameras is if the photo really sucks, you can just delete it. nothing worse than a roll of blurry photos.
