12 hours!!!!

I could 12 films which are a hour long.

I could make a sandwich on every hour to mark the occassion.

Nerves are getting to me.

Portfolio, good attitude, url of any websites you've worked on. Just dont start having a nervous conversation about tofu.

If you have a hardcopy portfolio.. take it.

If you have a digital portfolio... take it as well. Give them samples on a disc and then if you have the ability to host images, then give them additional web links to a portfolio you set up "just for them"

Take something professional to carry it all in... man purse, whatever. Something so you don't look like a kid on the first day of school.

Take your own pen... for whatever raeson, people are always impressed if you have your own pen.

bring your pets and ask if it's okay if you keep 'em in your cubicle.

Thanks for the good advice, Tesko's right I have to lay low on my tofu fetish.

Good idea for the CD-ROM, I might draw some tofu people to make it stand out, or even better prepare a tofu lunch for them.....oh man I'm screwed:)

Guys I have a interview this Thursday with the creative director of the design studio. I'm really worried now, I have less than 3 days to get my butt into gear and knock the socks of him.

Anyway can anyone give me any advice regarding answering these questions:

1.Tell me about yourself

A quick summary of my life, or do I highlight the postive creative stuff I done which isn't that much really.

2.Why this company?

The moneyof course, however, do I simply BS and say I love them and how much their company has done etc etc.

1. Touch on the very basics of your life that have formed your attitude, dreams, ambition, work ethics, etc. Then go into your design skills, what inspires you, and what you hope to bring to this company.

littlem on Nov 15 '05 at 10:05am
2. Tell them how the company inspires you. And how you are willing to work hard at being an integral part of the company's success....uhhhhhhhhh, that's all I can think of right now..it's too early:)

a good thing to always hit on is the fact that you are of course looking to stay in the area... you won't be moving anytime soon, and that you are eager about the position for their company because you think you are a great match with them. That the things your company puts out and the benefits that they give to their employees are fabulous and you have heard nothing but good things from them and you are excited about working for a company that works to strengthen personal growth.

be it a whole load of crap or not, people in positions to hire are always looking for people that they think wont leave for the next design job out there (even if you do) and that will be an assest to the company because they are excited about it and how it fits your life.

This is what I brought to the interview for the job I got (and am now slacking off in!)

Notebook with some of the basic questions pre-answered and a few possible scenarios for those 'tell me about a time when...' questions

Multiple copies of my resume

Portfolio

I also wish I brought a digital porfolio and business cards, but I didn't have those.

As for the tell me about yourself question - don't go into your personal life too much, stick to professional stuff that the interviewer will be interested in. Highlight personality traits and work ethic too. ;)

when they say tell them about you, stick to your design history and influences/inspirations/idols? they dont want to hear how you squirted the girl next door with a waterpistol when you were five :P

don't rely on them having internet, or even computer access (althought they probably will) in the interview. if it happens that they have to switch rooms to the old janitors closet then you need to be ready to deal with that, hense the hard copies. oh and check your cd portfolio works on a few of your friends computers. just cos it works on your system doesn't mean it's universal.

When you bring in your actual portfolio, only bring in your top best things and stuff that has to do with the company.

Good luck, you'll totally get this!!

Don't forget to smile :)

Doh!

They phoned me up and said I was going to see them next week, anyway it gives me time again.

Anyway the question of the day is they want a copy of my portfolio, however, do I simply dump my website onto CD or do I create another one in Director made specifically for CD?.

Cheers

i just remembered... we had a lecture or something about portfolios... we were told to take your ten,. just ten, best peices, and put the absolute best as the first and last as they leave the biggest impression.

^ that's for the hard copy portfolio btw, put more on the cd by all means, but they prob won't check the cd if the hard copy isn't up to scratch.

We're leaving together

But still it's farewell

And maybe we'll come back

To earth, who can tell

I guess there is no one to blame

We're leaving ground (leaving ground)

Will things ever be the same again

It's the final countdown...

The final countdown

Ooh oh

We're heading for Venus (Venus)

And still we stand tall

Cause maybe they've seen us

And welcome us all (yeah)

With so many light years to go

And things to be found (to be found)

I'm sure that we'll all miss her so

It's the final countdown...

The final countdown

The final countdown (the final countdown)

Ooh ooh oh

(interlude)

The final countdown

Ooh oh

I'ts the final countdown

The final countdown

The final countdown (the final countdown)

Ooh

It's the final countdown

We are leaving together

The final countdown

Just got back....

They were really nice people, I stuck out like a sore thumb in a suit. I want this job bad however...

My programming skills are the suck, I need to go throught my HTML, XHTML and CSS again. I think they were looking for someone who could maybe design sort of well but also program. I did say I could pick it up , and I needed to brush up my skills however, I don;t think it was something they really wanted to hear.

Plus side was they loved my portfolio, they absolutely love my graphics and designs. I was the strongest candidate they had seen this late in the interview process. They knew I could design well so that was cool, its nice they acknowledged I was a fun guy too

So yeah it was wierd, they didn't say no and they didn't say yes so thats a good thing. They might not give me the job because I can't do raw code and use Dreamweaver, so thats a meh. However, they like to have me because I can draw well and coukd possibly pick up code, the guy who ran the joint said he liked me to work here, the others were like....hmmmm .

Strange day anyway, I was stupidly nervous and it sort of reflected.
