This week I am choosing flowers, except I don't know the names of hardly any flowers, so I don't know what to look for/what I like.

My colours are like this:

but I don't think I really care for the flowers in those pictures.

Collectively we will be the Eckford family, but I am undecided about changing my name legally. I really like being a da Costa, ofthecoast and mister costa, but I like the family unit all having the same name. Shaun says he'll support whatever I decide. I think once we have kids I will probs be legally Eckford.

When I asked my older sister right before she got married if she was going to change her name, and she said, "Well, yes. Why else would I get married?"

Not even kidding.

ahhaha^

when i got married, the choice didn't even cross my mind.

and you know what? if people like my maiden name, they call me by it.

i think it's funny!

a name is just a name. it doesn't change who you are inside.

Goldendust
Goldendust on Feb 10 '12 at 3:58am
Yeah, I took my husbands name because of a bunch of reasons... But a few of my design classmates thought I should stick with my maiden name as it's more memorable and they thought it was super cute or something. They had some points, but I had more - it's always your choice in the end anyway. I'm just glad to hear Shaun will support with what you go with :)

That's why I think you should just live in sin forever, so people don't automatically assume you took his name when maybe you didn't.

Although, when I lived with my ex we got mail addressed to Household within a month of moving in. I was not a happy camper.

Forgot about brackets. It was addressed to (Hislastname) Household. Story ruined.

My little sister kept her name, and she HATES being called Mrs. Lively (her husband's name). She told me if they ever decide to have kids (which is a BIG if) than he's going to have to take her name unless he wants to be the one pushing them out.

I love my little sister.

Also, I decided last night that if I get married, a slowed-down acoustic version of this will be my first dance.

I had to fill out an emergency contact form for my current apartment, and Annie was one of my emergency contacts but in the last name portion, I totally blanked. And then for a while, I just thought her name was Annie Hall.

Also, holly, I really like your colors. My friend used them last year and another is using them this summer and I think they look so pretty.

And Annie, that bouquet you posted is amazing and I want it.

And Jeff. :)

And Amy, I thought I was going to hate wedding planning because I am very disorganized and forgetful, but it is JUST SO EXCITING to me to be getting married that it has been very enjoyable so far. Also we are very practical and have managed to save a lot of money.

My wedding planning consisted of... "How soon can we do this before my baby bump starts showing?"

It was so romantic!

Practical decisions are good. I still feel good about having a reasonably price savvy wedding.

NOT chocolate fountains. Just because those gross me out.
Goldendust
Goldendust on Feb 13 '12 at 11:38pm
We had tall cylindrical vases filled with green apples at each table, and the table number tied around each one. That worked pretty well, considering the theme revolved around apples.

I like interesting centerpieces. It's pretty much guaranteed that people are going to play with them before the end of the night anyway. My friend's midwinter wedding served mulled wine, and the centerpieces were simply the spices and ingredient to the mulled wine arranged artfully around candles. That kept us entertained... haha.

Have you considered buying flowers wholesale?
Khol
Khol on Feb 14 '12 at 12:06am
Also, a centerpiece of candy sounds awesome. You could go to flea markets/shop around online and find a collection of small apothecary jars and fill 'em up with colorful confections!
ofthecoast
ofthecoast on Feb 14 '12 at 12:21am
my brother's girlfriend's mom has a wholesale flower connection that I am considering using, and it will likely save me a lot of money, but I think I can save even more by using less flowers all together, too.

I'm trying to make really fun kids tables since there will be a lot of them and it's an outdoor thing and I want them to have fun too.

Maybe candy centerpieces will be good for that.

Have an ice cream sculpture with a big bowl under it. At the end of the reception, say into the mic "Now everyone enjoy some refreshing ice cream soup."

Order gigantic, person-sized fortune cookies. At the end of your reception, have lumberjacks come in with axes to crack open the fortune cookies. But instead of fortunes, doves fly out.

Make it like one of those restaurants where it's entirely pitch black. The bride, groom, and wedding party have night vision goggles so don't worry. Waiters help guide people to eat and everything. At the end of the reception, turn the lights on...and it turns out they were all at home the entire time (!!!).
