For those awesomely talented people out there... how do you design Tees with the 8 colour limit and yet make them look like you've used way more than 8 colours?

Some examples that I've come across...
* Wild Jelly Bears
* Lost in My Dreams
* Noah Express
* The X MENAGERIE
* Secret Lake
* Kill Monotony
Hi all!
As all avid sloganers know there has been much debate about the slogan %s being visible to EVERYONE as it no doubt influences many votes.

So, here is my attempt to start a nice long thread to hopefully get the attention of someone important and get something done about this!

To make it crystal clear here is a detailed summary
Problem:
When voting on other people's slogans via their "Slogans" link on their profile the number of votes and % for every slogan is visible.

Proposed/Possible Solution:
Only show the number of votes and % for slogans if:
1. It is your own slogan
2. The slogan has been printed as a TypeTee

Why is the problem a problem?
From reading through the threadless forums there has been much complaint/confusion/frustration about this.
The main cause is: It most definitely influences the way slogans are voted on

Why is this important to Threadless/TypeTees?
If the slogan voting is biased it is harder to determine the better slogans as people may not be voting based on the slogan as the visible % can influence the way the vote.

By making slogan voting focus on the slogan itself and remove as many other influencing factors it can allow the better slogans to rise to the top.

===================================

Ok, since "detailed summary" is actually an oxymoron...here is a REAL summary

REAL SUMMARY
  • Problem: Displaying the number of votes and % is a problem as it biases slogan voting

  • Possible solution: Only show the number of votes and % if it is your own slogan/a printed slogan

  • Why it matters: Less biased voting means better slogans get recognised without bias. Means better TypeTees!

So, if you agree with me please comment and make your voice heard!!!

Cheers,
pyko

Ideas from comments/other blog posts
Here are some ideas/suggestions to a solution to the visible %s and also general slogan stuff.
  • "I also wish there was a way of formatting your own slogan page - so you could move around older slogans to the top if u wanted - to give them some fresh air!" - T-Lou

  • Scores not visible until after you have voted on the slogan

  • Get rid of the illusion that slogans with higher percentages get printed (many 40%-50% slogans have been printed)

  • Include "Score # of slogans, given an average score of #" in people's profile (like designs)

  • More choice than just "I'd wear it" or "Um, stupid" (see: The68thDimension's blog for more details)

  • Also another feature for the centralized page could allow users to select a range of slogans from users who have a certain number of slogans. For example: 'users who have 15- 30 slogans active'. Then all those users within that range would pop up and again no user names would be listed. Also after the user selects a range the results could be randomized. - Dr MonA

hihi all :)

after many weeks of awesome slogan fun decided to dabble in a bit of design fun too!

so here it is.....*drumroll*....

bewildered triangles - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

any feedback & critique would be awesome :D
ok, this has nothing to do with t-shirts, but came across this during my random procrastination...and it is simply mind numbingly amazing.

Hi all,
Since creating and voting slogans for the past month or so, I've realised that not votes are hard to come by...even fro awesome slogans!

Not sure about others, but for me my vote counts for my slogans seem to slow down to a super duper slow crawl at ~30-40 :(

So decided to start a blog to do something about it - hopefully it'll help some awesome slogans get the well-deserved attention they should get :)

So here's the idea...pick 3 slogans (one each from 3 diff ppl) that you think are awesome...AND has less than 30 votes (the less the better).

I'll start it off...here's the three I chose (hard to pick from soo many good ones!) (ordered by # of votes)
* Wear socks if you need to put yourself in someone else's shoes. by amaniquen (16 votes)
* Zombies are proof recycling works. by SparkytheWonderboy (21 votes)
* Dining with cannibals can cost you an arm and a leg. by pochettejuliano (22 votes)

Eager to see what other slogans need more attention!

Cheers,
pyko
hihi all :)
Recently been thinking up of lots of random ideas for slogans and putting some of the more coherent ones up on threadless.

Though I've realised that my slogan page is starting to grow and to get to the 'older' slogans you need to scroll down the page in order to see them - which I would guess may mean less votes :(

So was wondering, is it better to keep as many slogans just in case they are "the one"? or is it better to delete "bad/unliked" slogans so the higher rated ones can get a higher number of votes?

Any tips will be great :)

Quick Summary
It's not a hard and fast rule, but here are some guidelines...
Kill the slogan if...
* There are ~10 votes and only 10% (ie. only you like it!)
* There are ~15 votes and it is below 30%
* There are ~30 votes and it is below 35%
* There are ~40 votes and it is below 40%
Seems like you just need to be *tough* on your slogans and kill the crap ones to give the better ones a chance.

hihi all :)

Been on threadless for a week now and been exploring here and there.

During my random votings/commenting on some awesome designs, saw that some were commented/described as being a "collab".

Just wondering...what is a "collab"? Is it an agreement between 2+ ppl to work on a design together? (or is it a threadless thing?)

Thanks!

Hi all,
I've recently joined threadless (yay!) and been having fun coming up with slogans for TypeTees.

Though I've come across something that I've found strange/interesting...

When voting in the main TypeTees page you can only see the results (#votes, % liked) of your own slogans. However, if you click into a person's nickname, then click on their "Slogan" tab you can see all the slogans they've submitted AND the #votes and % liked.

Wondering if this is meant to be correct? Because it seems a bit weird to go to the trouble of hiding the 'rank' of the slogan in one area, but reveal it in another...

greetings to all!

My designs

All about me

"Repeat after me: I am not a copycat" - greatly appreciated if you vote for one of my old fav slogans :) (It feels sad and lonely at the bottom of the page since people rarely scroll down that far)

"If 'Less is More', then can I pay you $10 less?" - a newer one but I like it! (and hope you do too!)

Will be muchly appreciated if you take some time to have a look at my slogans!

Feedback/critique very welcome too!
