I think I've told this story before but I'm a tell it again.

For years (up until my teens even) I was unaware that bees could sting - I thought that was just wasps. I used to let them sit on my hand and even stroke them with my finger. Then when I finally realised, I was stung by one right away. Therefore I don't believe it's the actual sting that hurts, but the knowledge that they're capable of it. It's a conspiracy!

one of my daughters was in her pram and a bee landed on her arm...and I just picked it up and chucked it over the rose bushes!!

I've learnt bees are relatively harmless (unless you have allergic reactions!) compared to those bastard wasps which I hate!!

Phiffer - thats is also very brave of you - well it is for me as I have a stupid fear of bees. I know it's silly and all in my head but thats what fear is really isnt it!

I used to get stung quite often when I was younger, once I was climbing on the play equipment at school and I grabbed a bar exactly where a bee happened to be sitting. Obviously it felt threatened by my giant hand so it stung me

bee stings just seem like a really silly defence mechanism to have developed considering that they die once they sting someone :/

I'm scared of bees because my dad is allergic. There is possibly some test I should do, like one of those deals where they scratch your skin with some peanut extract to see if you're allergic to nuts, but at the moment, the only way I'm going to find out if I'm allergic too is to be stung, which means possibly dying.

SJ27- thats pretty scary - I've never been stung either so I have no idea if I'm allergic too and I don't really wanna find out.
It's the anticipation that is probably makin me so scared - sometimes I think if I just deliberately get stung and get it over with I won't be so scared anymore. But then I would be killing a bee :(
