It is definitely a workable concept. I also seem to lean towards simplicity too. I would have to agree with @Ryder Revolution about the colors feeling a little off. One of the main things I noticed is that you're using the red bandanas from the original comic, but splashes of their unique colored bandanas. It feels a little inconsistent.
As @johnnypeter3535 said, submitting is always a good experience, whether it is your first or thousandth time.
