Why does no child left behind take money away from schools with bad test results when they are the ones that have to share textbooks and have little computer access? Why not give the money to schools that really need it? Seems like it should really be called no rich child left behind.

Are students really getting a well-rounded education in a system where teachers teach to standardized tests, and more emphasis is placed on scores and averages than on objectively looking at how individual students learn and grow?

Do you think that children should have to say the plegde of allegiance with the rest of their classmates even if they are not brought up to believe in God at home?
What happened to the separation between church and state? If it is a public school that is funded by the governement then there really should be no mention of God at all, right?
What are your views on this?

When the bulk of property taxes go to schools, and we spend twice as much for primary education as was spent 10 years ago - yet the results still are not improving - what is being done wrong and how can it be fixed.

Why do administrators say, "Oh we want your input and want you to build the program designing how it works," and then when the teacher does all this work and presents in to the principal, they say, in a condescending tone, "that's nice, but we're going to do it this way."

In other words when did the administration stop listening to its teachers?!

My sisters will be starting their senior year of high school next week.
I was informed that the school has ousted the "block scheduling" (4 classes each day/8 classes a year), and replaced it with "small learning communities". All students now have to choose a "major" and all their classes will be based around it. Basically what that means is that high school is turning into a pre-college. Instead of exploring all areas of learning, incoming and returning students are now pressured to pick a possible career before they are even old enough to drive. The "scientists" are separated from the "artists", the "doctors" are separated from the "teachers" and so on...

What are your thoughts about these "small learning communities"? Do you think teenagers will benefit from choosing a possible career at such an early age?

My Public school system has introduced a new series of standardized tests for high schoolers ( A result of the No Child Left Behind Act) to see if the teahcers are really teaching,
and to see if the students are retaining the information given to them. My class is the first class who has to pass these tests to graduate from high school. These tests in no way prove anything about the teacher's teaching abilities, or if the students are learning. Some kids are not comfortable taking long complicated tests, and can have problems keeping focus after hours of testing.

My question is, what would you do to ensure that teachers around the country are teaching what needs to be taught, and that students are retaining the information that they have been given over their years of high school education?

Im sure there is similar school funding plans in all states:
Florida's public schools have a ridiculous ranking system, for who gets the extra funds, and who gets nothing. Every year, FL students take the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test). Several months later, each school is given a letter grade based on the average score of the student body's FCAT Exam.

The schools that are made up of mostly white, upper class students always score higher then the schools that have a very diverse student body. So the majority of the states funds go towards those schools that are already high achievers. The diverse, struggling schools get next to nothing, when they are the ones that really need the extra funds. How are they expected to improve when they arent even given the opportunity to? Public schools are now faced with the same problem that the rest of the world has to deal with, "the rich get richer, the poor get poorer."

How can this system be changed to benefit all schools and students?

also, do you think that teachers should be chained to a curriculum from the school county? Aka, have to do pretty much already planned lessons, and pre-made activities, or should the teacher have freedom to make the lessons and activities, and have the decision to teach whatever the teacher feels is important and necessary for life?
