America has fallen behind several nations in industry, technology, engineering, architecture, science, etc. We are not educating our youth. We have created a society of selfish, mass consuming people who aren't free thinkers, but do what they are told my the media and government.

Can we release the strangle-hold the mass media has on our children so they might be able to learn, grow and be nurtured in a classroom and motivate them to do something great with their lives?

if enogh people decided, fuck it, we aren't going to vote, and it came out that the vote total were still as if those people had- then we would know the system was rigged.

which, it is, btw. one company makes the new paperless voting machines. i believe that is called a monopoly. and in this case, a politically biased monopoly.

apathy? no. i'm saying don't play thier games. in the big picture, i don't see anything short of a disaster that is going to change or system.

think of our government as an old, outdated computer. one big old room sized computer that runs everything in your town. the power, the traffic, the water, everything.
well, at some point, you need to update that computer, because the world outside has grown too large and complex for that one machine to handle it anymore.
some people say, well, just leave it, it works, if we fuck with it, things will get worse for a while. it would be inconvenient.

but we need to upgrade or replace it. and things will go down for a bit. but after a while, a new system will be in place, and we will rebuild

Why is it that 6 years after 9/11 this country is still living in a state of fear? It's sad because "terrorism" is only acheived if the act that is committed truely does "terrorize" the victims. The fact that so many decisions in this country are still made due to the fears people have of future attacks makes me think that the terrorists won that day. And then for our government to use the fear against us makes me downright sick. People weren't thinking clearly in this nation for a few years after 9/11 rushing into a war in Iraq that had absolutely no merit and had nothing to do with 9/11. Yet, if you would have polled people at the time, I would assume that atleast 50% of the people polled would say that we had to go after Iraq because of 9/11. Sad...
We like to think we are a civilized nation that is above the racism that held us back until the civil rights movement, but are we really? If you ask me, I think we are just moving our racism on to middle eastern looking people. If there was a terrorist attack tomorrow, who do you think would be blamed right away? An Arab? Probably...but, remember who commited the largest terrorist attack before 9/11? An American by the name of Timothy McVeigh. And...remember how quickly we moved on from that? People sure as hell weren't scared of another American terrorist for 6 years afterward.
So now we are stuck with our troops in the most unsteady area in the world. An area that's been fighting each other since the begining of written history. For what reason, I ask? Revenge?

Why does the media constantly exaggerate things of no significance to the wellbeing of the nation, while leaving facts such as the casualties in war to the side as a daily routine?

If America were updated on everything the White House and government did internationally, we would have a link with our leaders and be able to comprehend more than we do now. Why are we so self-involved?

Why am I waking up at noon every day? I have things to do, but I have fallen into step with the typical lazy American. Why are there not more clubs or organizations for me to get involved in, and to keep me from doing nothing in my life? Because it starts with not getting up in the morning.

don't participate in the 2 party, us vs. them, i'm right/you're wrong mentality option they give us. being limited to two options, two sides, two ideas...is not choice at all. they say we have freedom of choice, but it's only from the choices they present us. they are slowly catching on and hinting at giving us a third option , but even that is bullshit so long as it comes from and conforms to that outdated system.

it's like you are in jail, and they offer you you three things to give you the illusion of care and kindness.
do you want bread, a window, or a bath? but you can't have all three.

In an age of corruption and fear mongering, how do we combat the rising apathy of younger generations and interest and involve them in the government?

In an age of rising corruption and immorality, how do we instill a sense of morality in younger generations, in the face of cheating on the grand scale at Enron, with Scooter Libby, and the justice scandal?

How do we adapt to increasing worldwide energy demands, including our own, in face of global warming and disentangle ourselves from oil and the issues surrounding it?

i know conservatives that are gay. i know liberals gainst abortion, i know of 'republicans' with democratic ideals, and vice versa. but on any given minute, we are reminded of the two sides of thought in america. two. which are you? red or blue? coke or pepsi? dem or repub? are you with us or against us? you're working for them aren't you?!

Why is it that we are allowed the impeachment of a president whose primary "crime" was lying about an act of a very personal nature, brought unfortunately to public knowledge, but allow our current leaders to go unchecked and unpunished for blatantly lying to the American people, taking advantage of our national fears and sending our youth off to di?

Why is it that 6 years after 9/11 our nation is still living in a state of fear?
I understand the fact that we were shocked and caught off guard. I understand that we had to rush into Afghanistan. I even understand that we had to supoort our President for a little while after it. We had to rally as a nation and get back on track.
But after 6 years we still have some people that refuse to doubt any move the president makes because it would be considered "unpatriotic". We have people still living in a state of fear. We have rushed into another war against Iraq for unjust reasons that didn't pertain to the attacks on September 11th at all. And we actually have our own government using the fear factor to sway support their way. It all makes me sick.
The worst part about this all is that for terrorists to be successful, their victims have to truely be "terrorized". If we are still making decisions based on the terrorist's actions and living in a state of fear 6 years after the event, the terrorists were definitely successful that day.
Another terrible part about the fear associated with 9/11 is it has started a new breed of racism. We like to think of our country as an accepting place that has moved on as a nation since civil rights. But now, look at the way people from the Middle East are treated and looked at. How soon we forget that the 2nd largest terrorist attack in the United States was pulled off by a white American. And, how long did we move on after that? I know for a fact people weren't still living in a state of fear that we were about to be attacked by white americans at anytime 6 years after that event.
So now we are stuck fighting in the most unsteady area in the world. An area that's been fighting each other since there has been written history. For what reason, I ask?
Revenge?

ha ha mindtrance....i wish!
it sounds hippy feel good, but change will have to start with ourselves.
we have to be happy with ourselves. be the best we can be, not worry about standards or class or staus quo. once we are all there, our families are healed. once families are functional, our neighborhoods will interact and blossom. once our neighborhoods get on track, our towns, nd our states, and our country, and the world.

but, the hardest thing is getting everyone to be happy with themselves and not fighting, killing, dreaming for uneccesary and greedy goals.

How is it that, in a nation where the government is supposedly strictly secular, we can declare war on another nation, while claiming to be fighting a fanatical religious terrorist group, without any proven connection between the two?
