I have not been a member of this site for long, but have participated through a friend on here for quite for a few months. http://www.threadless.com/profile/783900/Noh_Body/home hit up his critique and let him know what you think. Anyway, I have been trying my hand at this slogan writing thing and I've noticed something, people have no sense of humor. I'm not saying all my slogans are great, in fact some are terrible, but a few I think are hilarious and they just bomb. We shouldn't go around omg, no-ing other people's slogans because yours aren't very good, if it's funny or clever, man/woman up and vote for it. That's about it, hopefully I can meet some people that feel the same and maybe get some decent ratings on my slogans.

if you'd stop pointing that gun at me, i'd be happy to score your slogans

you've got 2 or 3 really nice ones. I gave you some votes for those. :)

My favorite of yours is "Sci-Fi Movies: Misrepresenting the future since 1927.", but i think the flow needs a bit of work. Maybe "Science Fiction: Misrepresenting the Future since 1927", or reword your idea. it's pretty funny, but it's also a bit similar to the "Movies: Ruining the Book since 1920" Type Tee

The guns gone now you owe me scored slogans, lol. And to Bio-bot, I noticed that I completely ripped off that one, I posted it, then went to look at the winners to see if there was a similarity among winners, and I just hit my head on my desk when I saw it.

SnakeMan on Jan 11 '09 at 4:21pm
you really think people go around downvoting all other slogans to give theirs a better shot?

lol.

that doesn't even make sense.
JoelRHale
JoelRHale on Jan 11 '09 at 4:24pm
Not people that consistently put out good slogans like you or any of the above posts, but the people that you see that submit stupid things, like the apple parody i(insert action or object) or particularly unimaginative things.
krokun
krokun on Jan 11 '09 at 4:30pm
Thats not going to go away soon. Basically if you have a decent slogan you are still going to get at least 10 votes out of 30 who just vote no on everything. After that it falls off the front page of the voting and you have to work to get actual serious people to vote on it through self promotion and communal voting. Man up and stick it for the long haul. Also check out the 365 slogan club if you want some exposure.

I like "Hamsters" a bunch. :)

The one thing I would say helps slogan voting is presence in the blogs. Not necessary blogs like these (although I'm not against them). But if people actually visit your slogan page (instead of rushing over it in the lightning-round-typetees-crapfest), you're a lot more likely to get better votes.

Let your reputation develop. It takes a little time. You'll be Bio-bot/Larlar/martiandrivein before you can say "Geez, it's been 6 months".

If any of the above people have been following this blog, thanks for the great advice, it's nice to know that other people out there are supportive, I've hit up each and everyone of you and left votes on your good slogans, good luck and check back to return the favor every once in a while :)

I like your slogan's man. You got to realize a 40% 50% is not bad at all.
jess4002
jess4002 on Jan 11 '09 at 6:23pm
i totally agree with krokun, it won't go away anytime soon...there will always be those "crabby" slogan scorers. joel, continue submitting slogans and keep it up! also, you can check out the official slogan club and join up.
JoelRHale
JoelRHale on Jan 11 '09 at 6:42pm
Yeah, 40%-50% isn't bad, but it's not going to be printed. Maybe if it was 40% of 1,000 votes, but not 50, it is a fun time killer to come up with funny slogans but at the end of the day I'd like to have 500 bucks lol.
Krimson
Krimson on Jan 11 '09 at 6:45pm
40-50% have often been printed actually.
Krimson
Krimson on Jan 11 '09 at 6:48pm
Here is an awesome blog containing winners and their percentages

You will notice a ton of 40-50%, and one 27% thats been printed
JoelRHale
JoelRHale on Jan 11 '09 at 6:48pm
Really? Well that's a comforting fun fact to know. How do they choose what gets printed? Because if that's been printed it obviously isn't all about votes since I've seen 70% ones.

Type Tees are chosen kinda like normal Threadless designs. We look at the top slogans every couple of weeks and pick out a few slogans that we want to print based off of the slogans I'd wear it percentage but there are other factors too (Originality is a big one). Ultimately the decision of which slogans are made into shirts is left up to us. The scoring system helps give us a general idea of which slogans our customers want. There is no % that will guarantee your slogan to be chosen.

arzie13 on Dec 22 '08 at 4:35pm
A lot of times the "I'd wear it percentage" is a bit skewed because of people pimping out their slogans (which is totally fine and welcome)... but we have to take this into account. This is why sometimes slogans with fewer scores can also get chosen.

from this blog.

Thanks jess, that shed a lot of light, I'm new to this and still learning on the ends and outs of it.

Keep at it man. I banged my head against the slogan wall for a while before I started getting slogans consistently over 50%, and I still bomb more than fly. Try hanging around the 365-slogan blogs, as they are fun and give good practice.

best of luck man.

I am planning on starting the 365 day slogan challenge, but I really started this to bide the time before my graphics tablet comes... I can't draw with a mouse at all lol. I hope to get a few designs up for critique in the next few weeks.

Not that slogan writing isn't as challenging, but you know what I mean, didn't want to offend the great slogan writers out there haha.

Man people should stop banging their heads on hard surfaces. There has been too much of that in this blog--it can be rather humiliating around the office and it hurts. lol =D

Seriously, it looks like you have some good ones and are on the right track attracting attention to them via blogging and such. Good luck!

For an iguana, your english and mastery of using a computer are impeccable. Ha, not to steal secrets or pry, but how do you come up with a slogan? I personally don't have a pattern it just hits me and I laugh and submit it, but any tips or tricks would be awesome.
ahnik

guys please rate my slogans. got some interesting ones and need your comments
desidrae
desidrae on Jan 11 '09 at 10:47pm
Why thank you! =D

I don't really have any secrets or patterns. I just have random thoughts and submit the ones that make me laugh.

Purple monkey dishwasher, for example, did not make the cut. ;D

1 in 5 isn't bad, many dentists don't even fair that well. lol
Mr.aisa
Mr.aisa on Jan 11 '09 at 11:01pm
they just get covered up and hidden by the hundreds or thousands or however many slogans people just randomly put on

i think most of mine are funny but they always top out at 30 votes but there probably just not good enough lol
JoelRHale
JoelRHale on Jan 11 '09 at 11:03pm
ha, you should submit that, that might fair pretty well, I don't think that they've printed a ratio shirt yet, and you def have my vote.

Yeah, I get that, that's what I've been doing, I was just hoping there was a magic formula, maybe I'll just go buy some candles and a Ouija board and give that a try. lol
desidrae
desidrae on Jan 11 '09 at 11:12pm
Or, write one about a Ouija board, i bet that would do well--that hasn't printed yet either. lol

You'll have my vote
JoelRHale
JoelRHale on Jan 11 '09 at 11:16pm
I did some research on them and I just kinda freaked myself out haha. I really have no experience with talking board games, if you can come up with something, you can post it, I am drawing a blank.
JoelRHale

well i took a whack at it, idk if it's good or not. give me some feedback.
desidrae
desidrae on Jan 11 '09 at 11:24pm
I would have it say something a little less common like

"...said I'd run into you today"
"...said you'd say that"
"...says you're wrong"
