Considering I am currently trying to build a whoop-ass early 90's R&B music collection, I have not been keeping up with new 2K5 releases (but, BOY OH BOY, I can listen to Color Me Badd or Bel Biv DeVoe anytime I want!!) All things considered, my favorite NEW stuff is as follows:

1. Open Hand - You & Me (for some good ol' rock)

2. Sonata Arctica - Reckoning Night (I also love wizard metal)

------

The following are later 2K4 albums I can't get enough of,which cap off the top 5 list:

3. Social Distortion - Sex, Love, Rock & Roll (one of my top 5 fav bands, of all time)

4. Joey Cape & Tony Sly - Acoustic (No Use For A Name + Lagwagon = perfection)

5. Minus The Bear - Highly Refined Pirates (they get wasted a lot & makes genius music)

VIVA LA CRISCO TWISTER!!

I'm digging the new Bloc Party, but I keep going back and forth on Sage's new one. What do you think of A Healthy Distrust?

Not his greatest, but i like his anger so i'm biased. If you like sage though you'll like a guy by the name of Qwel, of a crew called 'Typical Cats'

i have over 250 albums plus however many mp3s, and listen to most of the on and off, so this is really hard! i couldn't tell you how many of them are 2005ish though. Kasabian would be up there, so would Prodigy. otherwise i don't think i have much stuff from this year.

eskimokiss, my bloody valentine rock! no one i know has ever heard of them!
eskimokiss
   eskimokiss on Apr 08 '05 at 11:12am
Yeah, same here. I love that whole shoe-gaze era. I discovered them late (in 1999) thanks to a 'cyber' friend who put me onto many fab bands. I was hooked the first time I heard them (First song of theirs I downloaded was 'When You Sleep' which incidently became my favourite song of theirs) and bought Loveless, Glider, Isn't Anything and Tremelo within a month. Been looking for Geek, This is Your Bloody Valentine, and Ecstacy and Wine since then, but have most songs on mp3 anyhow.
Jaycee
Jaycee on Apr 08 '05 at 11:48am
i don't have many, just My Bloody Valentine. it was playing in a shop while i was browsing so i bought it there and then. haven't found any more since unfortunatly.

i tend only to download to see what a band's like before i buy, i much prefere to own the cds, so i haven't done that yet... though i am sorely tempted!

Didn't know Pearl Jam had a new one. Have you heard NIN's new single? Heard it's good. I'm also looking forward to hear what the Gorillaz new one sounds like. And I think all these artist have albums coming out this year:

Flamming Lips

311

Outkast

DJ Shadow

Portishead

Scissor Sisters

The White Stripes

Tool

Foo Fighters

Sounds like it is going to be quite a year

Jaycee on Apr 08 '05 at 3:24pm
the new Gorillaz sound is pretty cool. hasn't changed too much, but i've only heard the one song so it's not really that much to judge it on. i didn't know lostprophets had a new know due. the big one for me is Audioslave.

O.K. since no one has mentioned the yahoo forum

ElectroAmbientDreamPop, allow me to.

included along with the obvious are shoe-gazer, ethereal, etc. etc...

downtempo

people who host various internet radio shows on music of the sort will post times they will be on air. bands, dj's, etc. artists will post their websites and info on the music they play.

it ranges from "kinda sorta obscure" to "pretty damn obscure"

the past few days they have gone off on a total tangent talking about Japanese Electronic Pop. but uasually there's much less of a subject.

when ever a year is up people will post their "Best of" the year lists, which are neat to look through. One person list was 50 CD's long.

but yea. any one who like's downtempo is pretty much garenteed to find somethng they havent even heard of.

& if not. damn I'm impressed. lol

Super Furry Animals are always at the top of my list , but i heard the new Weezer single on the radio earlier and i'm really looking forward to that album. The Futureheads album is quite good, I haven't had much of a chance to hear that much new stuff recently, a bit bummed to learn that the Kaiser Chiefs album is a bit of a let down but im keen to hear something new.

anyone heard the new Millencolin cd? I got it about a week and a half before it was released..............yeah, I'm cool. I've loved Millencolin for a long time, and I think they've stayed pretty true to their own sound, but it seems to me the last two of theirs have been a little weird........But I still love them.

Some good taste in music here. All everyone I know listens to is the crap they play on the radio: Maroon 5, Story of the Year... that kind of garbage. Right now I'm listening to:

Death Cab

Arcade Fire

Air

Pinback

Department of Eagles

Stereolab

Blonde Redhead

I'm not really feeling the new Weezer single. I'm a big fan of the blue album and Pinkerton, so the new stuff is just ok. I'm looking to get the King Louis XIV album and Fischerspooner, along with the obvious Theivery Corp and Prodigy. And I agree with whoever said it's a good ear for music. 2004 wasn't bad at all, and with Mogwai and some others, I think 05 will be even better. Also looking forward to a new portishead album. That will be amazing!

Why can't i work with you guys , if i mention any stuff like the bands listed above i get told that my colleagues listen to "proper music". Everybody at my work chooses local radio stations ie. shite or play crap compilation CD's, i have no idea how many fucking times i had to listen to 9 to 5 on rotation the other day but its a good thing i don't work with weaponry.

callcentre's can be good sometimes.

i used to work telesales, and one time during the FA cup final (soccer if you're anerican, i'm not sure) i managed to get a guy to leave his phone next to the tv with me on the other end. he didn't get any more interuptions, and i didn't have to work and could hear the commentary and all paid for by the company :D

so glad they didn't note who was on what phone when!
Robotron5
Robotron5 on Apr 20 '05 at 5:09pm
Its okay if you can get a moment of respite like you did but i work with some horrible people, some lovely people too but there are so many raciost people out there , both ends of the phone. A colleague of mine the other day described someone as "one of them" with her index finger planted firmly in the middle of her forehead. I was furious and ripped into her but you can imagine what it's like musically. Nights out are nothing but Paul Smith/Ben sherman shirts.

Sorry i derailed, Has anyone heard the new white stripes track? AC/DC wannabe anyone, not that its a bad thing.

vibration13,

seeing your list of instrumental awesomeness, I HIGHLY recommend Explosions in the Sky, which you didn't list.

The good new stuff this year is Beck's Guero, The Mars Volta's Frances the Mute, and I recommend everyone to pick up the new Gorillaz and System of a Down in the coming weeks.
