Slogans, statistics and stuff

Latest News:

Slogans are one of the truly fun parts of threadless, even though it lacks some functionality. One big baddy is the absence of a comment function but sloganeers have found ways around that by building up communities. If you love slogans and you have a feeling that your precious words are not really appreciated by the slobbering masses then hop on over to a brighter place: Official Slogan Club.

Of course word loving natures may also like numbers, so I have set up a simple Slogan Statistics page which can cough up a quick sum up of what the OSC member have up and running. Just hop on over:

Try not to stress the server too much, it is a cheap one. Comments are welcome.

Got an odd question/suggestion for you. When you bring up the hall of fame page, is there anyway we can make it highlight a username we want so we can see how many they have in the hall?

let's get difficult...

should you add the no. of hall of fame slogans to each sloganeers stats, could you also include it as a pct.? that way you could see that even though biobot has like half the hot 100 and i only have two, we both have about the same pct.

@SnakeMan: If your percentages are indeed the same then I guess the one with more slogans still is the winner, muhahaHAHAHA! What I definitely want to include is the variance, though...

@courtney_pie: It is amazingly true that my page doesn't feature any social statistics, yet! Not even a google map showing all your preferences and phone numbers...

@Steelplate: At first I wanted to use lots of distracting pictures and stuff but then I decided to just let the slogans shine.

Breakin' Slogan News! Read all about it!

There is a new one of those totally non-shiny tabs without a trace of glitter at the top of the Slogan Statistics Page!

It is dedicated to showing off the latest slogans of OSC members. Behind every slogan you will find a link to the writers slogan page. It is not a direct link to the slogan since getting that kind of link would require my script to actually log in. But since these are the latest slogans they should be easy to find at the top of the page, anyways... As always, only slogans with at least 15 votes will appear on the list.

Hit it and enjoy!

And while you are here you might tell me: Should that list be filtered? Should everything with a say less then 15% rating not be shown at all? Or do you actually enjoy to see those that are going down, too? Since there might always be the little gem that just needs to be saved by an understanding sloganeer?

Keep the list as it is...But, maybe, if it's possible, move it to a second or third tab...I liked the statistic calculator first! That's MY 2cents...

Due to popular demand the "new slogans" tab has been moved.

@SuperRyan: The top 100 will get linked eventually... but since I cannot create the direct permalinks, yet, it wouldn't really be fun right now.

@McCormick: Yeah, on that list everybody can get on top... all you have to do is keep on writing... which also might be the key to getting to the top of other lists.

@Steelplate: The exaggerated distance really deserves it, that shouldn't be just a pimpin' effect!

@Steelplate: MSQ = Mystical Sloganeering Quotient. Meaning: It's mystical, has something to do with slogans and totally involves fractions! The main ingredients are the average rating, average number of votes, and the number of slogans you got.

this is so cool! :D does it take a few days for the top 100 list to update, or has my name just not been added to the database yet? I only ask because my most favoritest slogan doesn't show up there and it makes me a sad panda.

@spacesick 2: I am running this on a very cheap web space. I have no cron jobs at my disposal and a quite limited script execution time.

So what do I do in order to keep the lists updated?
Every time someone visits the page I am updating the data of the member who hasn't been updated for the longest time. Also every time someone loads a member's statistics, that member's stats are updated.

That means: The site needs a bit of traffic to stay up to date.

Thanks for the thanks. Most of the work is handled by a computer and my server center of choice tells me that they give it some extra tasty electrons for every job well done.

Also I don't have a tv. I have internet and I watch dvds on my laptop, so I don't really miss it. I have a very young daughter, though, so instead of having shit to do I have diapers to change...
